Job Summary

With a relatively minor amount of oversight and supervision, coordinate project testing services consistent with client's needs by either performing or arranging qualified personnel to perform applicable geotechnical and/or materials testing. Perform field observations and evaluations for soils/geotechnical-related projects, construction observations/testing and special inspection services. Will also prepare associated reports and manage project testing for assigned jobs.

Project Management
  • Prepare project specific proposals.
  • Review and negotiate contracts.
  • Oversee and maintain client, project team, and in-house communication.
  • Coordinate engineers and technicians in performance of field work.
  • Maintain orderly project file and job status reports.
  • Prepare timely invoices and maintain acceptable work-in-progress.
  • Pursue aged accounts.

Field Work
  • Perform engineering observations/judgments of geotechnical activities, including those jobs with a higher degree of difficulty.
  • Perform special inspection services and materials testing services on an as-needed basis (some full-time duties may be required).
  • Coordinate technicians to perform field tests.
  • Assist in training of less experienced personnel in routine field work, special inspections, documentation and report preparation.
  • Directly supervise field and laboratory procedures of project technicians for assigned projects.

Laboratory Work
  • Determine lab tests needed for projects, possibly including performing of those lab tests.
  • Evaluate the suitability or specification compliance of observed/tested field and laboratory conditions/results, along with providing recommendations when needed.

Reporting
  • Prepare formal reports of soil, materials and special inspection services.
  • Prepare site visit reports for job file after every project site visit.
  • Prepare information sheets for project technicians.
  • Assist in preparation of training manuals and QA procedures.
  • Drafting.
  • Prepare other project-related memos and necessary documentation.
  • Determine content of field and laboratory reports for specific projects, subject to review by a Registered Professional Engineer.

Marketing
  • Maintain existing clients and business relationships.
  • Develop and maintain new clients and business relationships.
  • Pursue assigned marketing leads.
  • Aid in company marketing functions.
  • Become actively involved in engineering, testing, or other societies and functions (i.e. become an officer of such designated organization or become a member of a committee).
  • Document marketing and business development efforts and provide such documentation to supervisor on a monthly basis.

Miscellaneous
  • Aid division manager in developing and implementing in-house training and quality programs.
  • Assist in preparation of training manuals and QA procedures.


Other Areas of Accountability
  • Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local regulations, along with AET's QA and Health and Safety Policies, to promote the safety and protection of employees, clients and the public.
  • Maintain valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Some positions may require use of personal vehicle for company business. Maintain compliance with DOT driver regulations if required for position. Maintain appropriate physicals if required for position.
  • Frequent travel required within regional area, and occasional out of town travel.
  • Duties often outdoors and away from the main office/laboratory location.
  • Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain the quality of service and work product.
  • Complete assigned projects within budget and satisfy client needs.
  • Maintain high chargeable productivity.
  • Coordinate with other AET staff with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency, productivity and communication.
  • Perform other tasks as necessary to meet departmental or company goals.


Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geology with 3 or more years of related experience, OR;
  • Advanced degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Geology with 2 or more years of related experience.
  • Appropriate "in-training" certification required in areas licensed by the state.
  • Demonstrated skill and proficiency in engineering or scientific principles and the ability to develop and implement solutions to a wide range of engineering problems.
  • Communication skills sufficient to convey complex technical information in a clear manner to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues and problems in a constructive manner, and work independently in the field.
  • Ability to appropriately identify issues and/or problems that should be escalated to higher level staff.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload based on client and department schedules.
  • Skill in analyzing complex project related data, identifying root causes of problems, ability to recognize when innovative solutions are required and may need to be escalated to higher levels, and provide input to resolution.
  • Ability to work at environmental remediation, industrial and construction sites and perform field work including, but not limited to, collecting samples, operating field instruments, following procedures, planning, organizing and arranging logistics for the job, and documenting field activities and data collected.
  • Ability to perform field work throughout the working day.
  • Capable of the physical labor required, with personal protective equipment. Ability to occasionally move 50 to 100 pounds.


Pay Transparency

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $70,000 - $105,000 per year based on skill set and experience. The selected candidate must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Work Environment

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. This position also may require field work in outdoor conditions on construction sites with uneven ground and adverse weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands or finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds. The employee will occasionally push or pull equipment weighing up to 200 pounds. The employee is required to frequently work outside. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
