Job Title: Safety Specialist

Job Description

Assist, plan, and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA, MSHA, and DOT. Advise the Safety Director on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions. Plan and implement training for employees on worksite safety practices. Maintain safety files and records, perform safety surveys and inspections, and prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures. Conduct post-accident investigations, prepare reports identifying possible causes and hazards, and ensure corrective measures are implemented. Assist in the development, evaluation, and upgrading of safety programs. Manage inspections of job sites, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe working conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Implement and oversee safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations.
  • Advise the Safety Director on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.
  • Plan and conduct safety training for employees.
  • Maintain comprehensive safety files and records.
  • Perform safety surveys and inspections and document findings.
  • Prepare reports with recommendations for corrective or preventive measures and follow up on their implementation.
  • Conduct post-accident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Accompany personnel to job sites to perform drug tests.
  • Assist in the development and upgrading of safety programs.
  • Inspect job sites, equipment, and vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of safety-related experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience with OSHA, First Aid/CPR, Confined Spaces, DOT, and Excavation safety.
  • Proficiency in writing detailed reports and procedures.
  • Experience documenting investigations.
  • Ability to present safety procedures and regulations to small groups.
  • Effective communication and computer skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in an environmental and/or occupational health and safety-related field (preferred).
  • CHST certification or ability to obtain within a year (preferred).
  • Experience with safety audits, industrial safety, and conducting safety inspections.
Work Environment

Work is based at the Google Data Center location in Cedar Rapids. Some travel may be required a few days each month within a two-hour radius. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 10-hour days. The dress code includes jeans, work boots, and work-appropriate t-shirt or sweatshirt. High visibility vests, glasses, hard hats, gloves, and other necessary safety equipment will be provided on-site. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
pays 100% of all benefits, including health/dental/vision insurance premiums, life insurance and cancer insurance. 401(k) with 3% company match and paid time off is also available. Company vehicle provided.
