We are looking for a Head of Safety that will lead the development and implementation of our safety strategies.
The Head of Safety will report to the Senior Operational Leader and have direct exposure to our Senior Leadership.
The Head of Safety will ensure the highest standards of safety in the design, testing, and operation of our autonomous transportation systems. This role is critical in fostering public trust, meeting regulatory requirements, and driving a culture of safety across the organization.
This is a full-time position based in Orlando, FL or the surrounding areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute the company's safety vision and strategy.
Collaborate with executives to integrate safety across all business functions.
Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS).
Safety Operations
Embed safety protocols into product development and operations.
Establish and enforce training programs and emergency response plans.
Regulatory Compliance
Monitor and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
Represent the company in safety forums and regulatory discussions.
Investigate accidents, recommend preventive measures, and prepare appeals for citations.
Manage activities such as Workers Compensation, accident prevention, driver training, and health clinic operations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
Provide accident prevention training and ensure corrective actions for safety deficiencies.
Organize and lead safety meetings.
Requirements
Considerable knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations; principles and practices of accident prevention; department, office, shop, field and equipment operations.
Knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and practices, maintenance and construction methods.
Considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communications skills.
Analytical ability.
Strong knowledge of safety management systems, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and disciplines.
Passion for innovation and a commitment to advancing safety in autonomous transportation.
Three (3) years of experience in an advanced working level capacity in training and/or enforcement of employee safety regulations including accident prevention and safe working practices in highway maintenance or construction work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Senior safety leadership experience, ideally in autonomous transportation, robotics, or related fields.
Expertise in developing and implementing Occupational Health and Safety programs, including industrial hygiene principles.
Background in highway maintenance, construction operations, or related sectors.
In-depth knowledge of state and federal safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, FMCSA, NFPA, building and life safety codes).
Proficiency with relevant technology, software, and technical safety equipment.
Skilled in adult education methods for effective worker safety and health training.
Experience in fire service, emergency management, or similar areas.
