The Performance Solutions team manages the lifecycle performance of the installed base from ITO-OTR-ER (cradle to grave). This team is under the Performance COE vertical within the newly formed Heavy Duty Plant Engineering (HDPE) organization and works closely with Applications Engineering teams as well as the Sales and Commercial operations to architect performance guarantees and risk levels for proposed CM&U upgrades leveraging gas turbine and combined cycle modeling and simulation methods. This team also works with CM&U Requisition team to develop control constants and correction curves for sold upgrade opportunities to have the machine meet performance guarantees within the operability and emission limits and facilitates guarantee validation and works with Digital Requisition team to deliver Performance Monitoring Solution for both NU and Services customers. The members of the team are also responsible for Fleet management being the front-line support of all customer performance issues that comes via ER cases, NCR and RCA and works closely with the Customer Engineering, supports MYA margin reviews and bids through degradation ATA development and drives configuration management to provide accurate performance models (via Fleet Performance System) for the monitored fleet to serve M&D and MYA Life cycle productivity programs.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

The Performance Solutions team is seeking a Steam Turbine Performance Principal Engineer who demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of Steam Turbine and broader needs of Combined Cycle Power Plant Performance Engineering. Integrates and develops technical solutions, processes that meet business needs across the organization. This role contributes to the overall strategy, long-term planning and managing of complex issues within functional areas of combined cycle thermal performance engineering.
  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near and long-term engineering needs related to combined cycle power plant performance improvement including decarbonization technologies such as integration with CO2 capture systems which will have significant impact on ST performance and CC performance and operations.
  • Provide technical consultation on product problems that impact the intended outcome of steam turbine performance/combined cycle power plant performance throughout the business including field support and long term risk assessment.
  • Proactively provide inputs for risk evaluation & mitigation plan on critical/complex projects
  • Develop data reconciliation methodologies in support of complex BOP modeling and assessments to improve accuracy of predictions.
  • Share best design practices, leverage lessons learned on complex studies to address any quality issues, process gaps, and drive standard work collaborating with cross functional partners.
  • Ownership of ST Performance lifecycle, the responsibilities that would include determination of P50 Performance level, Performance Margining for all types of guarantees, Baselining ST performance for Services Upgrades, Validation of ST performance, Updates to ST performance model assumptions
  • Facilitate and lead any Design practice and Work Instructions requirements in the Services Steam Turbine space, partner with broader CTH community to drive consistent strategies.
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact through forward leaning technologies & plant outcome-based solutions.
  • Facilitate interaction with ST Engineering to have a consistent ST performance method across New Units and Services and across legacy GE, legacy Alstom as well as oOEM steam turbine fleets.
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining a holistic & state of the art hardware/digital solution, methods/tools to anticipate, apply, adapt, or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
  • Proactive guidance/mentoring: Create ecosystem to organically build opportunities & promote ownership
  • Coordinate with customers, Product Line, Sales, and Engineering to ensure proposed solutions are compatible with the customer needs, GE design standards and established quoting limits.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve product or field issues.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
  • Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
  • Support invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
  • Evaluate & provide technical guidance, direction, and training to new and experienced engineers in performance engineering domain.


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Engineering/Technology in the field of Mechanical, Chemical, Thermal & Energy Engineering or equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • Significant experience in the field of Steam Turbine/Combined Cycle Performance Engineering

  • Master of Engineering/Technology in the field of Mechanical, Chemical, Thermal and Energy Engineering.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills
  • Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within the field of steam turbine, combined cycle plant thermal performance.

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $131,700 - $175,500 USD Annual

The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This Senior Professional Band position is also eligible for a variable incentive bonus of 15%.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
