About this position

We are looking for a dynamic, resourceful, and impact-driven Environmental Advisory Services Support Consultant. As a consultant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the design and implementation of advisory services that strengthen the environmental and climate alignment of IDB Lab clients. Your work will contribute to maximizing the environmental and economic impact of IDB Lab's investments in Latin America and the Caribbean.

You will work in Impact Enhancement Program (IEP), part of the SKI Division. The IEP is an IDB Lab initiative to help early-stage companies and VC funds maximize social, environmental, and economic impact through advisory services, tools, and resources. It focuses on IDB Lab's strategic goals around Poverty and Vulnerability reduction, Inclusion, Environmental sustainability, and equal opportunities

What you'll do

Client Diagnostics & Advisory Design
  • Conduct assessments to identify climate resilience, environmental footprint reduction, and biodiversity conservation opportunities in operations.
  • Deliver diagnostic reports, highlighting client's opportunities and capability gaps in environmental matters, including biodiversity, water footprint, resource footprint, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, circular economy, among others.
  • Develop Terms of Reference (ToR) for advisory services by identifying client gaps and needs.
  • Support client relations to define advisory scope and objectives and assist in selecting advisory firms to ensure project alignment with IDB strategic priorities.

Technical Expertise & Framework Development
  • Provide technical expertise to integrate environmental and nature-based solutions considerations into client operations and products.
  • Support in the development and delivery of practical tools and frameworks to help clients assess environmental performance, identify gaps, and implement methodologies to reduce their footprint and improve outcomes.
  • Support in designing benchmarks and monitoring frameworks for effective reporting on climate and environmental impact.
  • Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing
  • Prepare and deliver capacity-building sessions to enhance clients' understanding of environmental priorities.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing activities, including workshops and peer learning, to promote best practices.

Client Engagement & Advisory Oversight
  • Accompany clients and advisory firms throughout service delivery, ensuring alignment with objectives and quality standards.
  • Act as a liaison between the IEP and advisory firms, facilitating communication, resolving issues, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Prepare progress reports and presentations.
  • Support the drafting of a year-end report detailing key outcomes, lessons learned, and recommendations for scaling and improving Impact Enhancement Services.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of Impact Enhancement Services.

Program Integration & Collaboration
  • Work with the IEP team to ensure environmental goals are integrated across all program components.


What you'll need

  • Education: Degree in Environmental Sciences, Climate Science, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Development, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Between 5 and 8 years of progressive experience in Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies, Sustainable Development Planning, GHG Emissions Reduction, Nature-Based Solutions, Environmental Risk Assessment, Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Climate Resilience or similar fields. Experience working with early-stage companies or venture capital funds in Latin America and the Caribbean is highly desirable. A deep understanding of the sector, including its dynamics, terminology, and investment logic, is required.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.


Type of contract and duration

  • Type of contract: Products and External Services Consultant (PEC), Lump Sum
  • Length of contract: 12 months, with the possibility of extension
  • Work Location: Remote.
