Job Announcement
This position works as a part of Fairfax County's Internal Audit Office (IAO) is to oversee complex business process audits, investigations, and data analytics initiatives. Key Responsibilities:
- Business Process Audits: Oversees and supervises staff conducting business process audits. Manages audit schedules, reviews workpapers, drafts reports, and ensures compliance with government auditing standards. Provides coaching, conduct evaluations, and recommend program updates.
- Data Analytics: Serves as IAO's subject matter expert in data analytics. Advises on audit-related data strategies, develops data models, and applies tools (e.g., AI, Excel, Logikcull) to enhance audit evidence and insights.
- Investigations: Conducts investigations related to fraud, waste, abuse, or ethical violations. Performs interviews, gather and analyze evidence, and communicate findings through detailed, professional reports. Supports hotline response efforts and follow-up evaluations.
- Professional Development & Engagement: Stays current with developments in auditing standards, regulations, and local government operations. Participates in training, professional organizations, and county initiatives to support continuous improvement in IAO operations.

- Acts as consultant in systems planning, design, and implementation ensuring effective use of control techniques and efficient use of resources;
- Plans the scope of an audit, performs risk assessment, and develops a risk-based fieldwork audit program;
- Evaluates procedures and preparations for system backup and reconstruction, and business continuity;
- Examines and analyzes automated files, records, and other documentation of existing systems to determine accuracy and compliance with County policies, procedures, and standards;
- Tests transactions and reviews system specifications to ensure that controls are adequate and operational;
- Advises Internal Audit staff in uses and techniques of the computer as an audit tool;
- Presents oral and written reports to management, communicating findings and recommendations;
- Analyzes complex department operations for efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with policies and procedures;
- Conducts investigative audits to examine allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse;
- Evaluates department responses to audit reports;
- Performs assigned follow-up audits of department action plans;
