Speech Language Pathologist

JOB SUMMARY:

The Speech Language Pathologist must provide comprehensive services in the area of communication disorders including evaluation, treatment, and consultative services to students, ages 3-21, with disabilities. The Speech Language Pathologist will perform other job-related duties as requested by administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide direct, indirect and consultative services including articulation, phonology, language, voice and fluency.
  • Assist in the identification of communication disordered students through referral, assessment, observation, and writing of a diagnostic report that states the evaluation findings then provide appropriate program recommendations.
  • Participate and work collaboratively as a member of the IEP team in designing and implementing effective programs as determined by the student's individual education plan.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Maintain appropriate written records and reports for each child assessed and/or served, and evaluate the effectiveness of the student's program, modifying and adapting as needed.
  • Communicate with families, school staff and outside agencies involved with the student regarding the student's program.
  • Provide a safe, positive and effective environment that reflects and facilitates learning.
  • Provide recommendations needed to facilitate improved performances in the classroom.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service and professional growth activities and provide in-service education for staff and support personnel.
  • Work cooperatively with parents, teachers, and administrators in providing direct and indirect services to disabled students.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progress in a timely and professional manner.
  • Instruct and manage student behavior.
  • Assist in the selection and development of equipment and materials.
  • Self -reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional performance to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and adjust accordingly to reach maximum effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be ESA certified as a speech language pathologist in the State of Washington, or obtain said certificate before the start of the job.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Demonstrate comprehensive content knowledge and understanding of teaching responsibilities and accountability procedures as required by the IDEA and WAC 392-172A.
  • Demonstrate ability to make data-driven instructional decisions.
  • Exhibit the ability to build a positive learning environment including modeling respect and honoring the dignity of all students, staff and parents.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop rapport with students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progress.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with a team, contributing in a positive way.
  • Exhibit a commitment to on-going professional learning including demonstrating the ability to develop professionally in areas of the school and district focus.

DESIRED CRITERIA:
  • ASHA certified with at least one-year experience working in a school setting, preferred
  • Experience with IEPonline, preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Mead Education Association (MEA) and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. The 2023-24 salary range for teachers in the Mead School District is between $57,877 and $117,314 per school year. Placement is defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is generally based upon a combination of Education and Experience. Other forms of compensation may be available to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or wage scale as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full term shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance Each employee shall earn five (5) annual leave days per year. Employees less than 1.0 FTE will receive a prorated share of annual leave based on their percentage of FTE.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over the school year are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
