Bring your knowledge and expertise as our next Accounting Controller who will assist in the overall fiscal control of the organization, including but not limited to the oversight of the accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and payroll processing teams. The Controller will prepare budgets, forecasts, Indirect Cost Rate (ICR) schedule & other financial reports and presentations and facilitate KBA's CPA firm with annual Tax Return. Applicant must have an understanding of FAR and Non FAR expenses. The Controller reports directly to the CFO and will work closely with the CEO/President and the KBA Board as needed

Who you are and what you will be doing

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations (A/P, A/R, payroll, GL) and maintain accurate accounting records using Dynamics SL and KBA's future Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, currently being selected, and Microsoft Excel while adhering to standard practice internal control procedures for all aspects of accounting.
    • Monthly and annual review of outstanding A/R
    • Review weekly timesheets & bi-weekly payroll processing for accuracy and completeness
    • Review with the GL Accountant the month-end and year-end closing process & financial statements in accordance with GAAP
    • Review all necessary reports for compensation related functions such as: quarterly tax reports, 401(k) deposits, yearend W-2s, etc.
    • Interface with Human Resource professionals to ensure compliance in all employee policy, benefits and pay matters
    • Train, mentor and coach new and current accounting associates
  • Provide backup for all accounting functions.
  • Prepare financial reports and documents including snapshots, performance dashboards, forecasts, backlog analysis, budgets, and variance reports timely and accurately in compliance with GAAP.
    • Prepare and deliver financial presentation for the company management/board meetings and attend management meetings
      Monitor budget and YTD performance; make recommendations for corrective action to management
    • Act as immediate contact with other advisors on accounting matters and provide reports to the President as needed.
  • Manage audit, tax, accounting, banking, business licenses, business insurance, and financial planning for the organization.
    • Responsible for annual budgets for KBA, Inc. and Business Leasing, LLC
    • Prepare Indirect Cost Rate (ICR) Schedule for WSDOT audit
    • Provide CPA with all tax detail work papers and interface with CPA regarding reviewed financial statements and annual tax return
    • Support ESOP administrator & assist with annual company valuation
  • Create efficiencies in accounting processes by moving away from legacy manual processes and implementing technology solutions and automation.
  • Manage employees on the Accounting team and perform annual employee reviews.

Requirements

What you'll need to be successful (minimum requirements):

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience
  • 5-8 years' experience as a Finance Manager/Controller or related functions
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems / small business software / ERPs
  • Proficient with payroll requirements and outsourced payroll solutions (UKG preferred)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and easily adaptable to new technology
  • Familiarity with FAR and Non FAR expenses
  • Understanding of consolidated accounting standards
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent leadership qualities and abilities: the ability to take charge and assertively hold others accountable and enforce policies, while maintaining collaborative, supportive, encouraging relationships
  • Ability to collaborate with leaders; an ease with presenting new ideas and opposing opinions with a willingness to support decisions once they are made
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, efficiency & problem-solving skills
  • Forward thinking and initiative: the ability to take ownership of, direct, and complete complex projects; ability to bring top-notch business insights to the management table and make proactive recommendations for business decisions and strategies

  • Experience with engineering firms or consulting-based industry
  • Proficient in Power BI


General Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, with the ability to interact with and support staff, managers, coworkers, and clients. Detail-oriented and self-motivated, with the ability to manage competing and pressing priorities. This is a full-time (M-F), exempt position with the ability to work remotely up to two days per week.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Ability to lift 25 pounds such as boxes of records, is required. Ability to sit at a workstation and perform data entry is required. Ability to walk, stand, and stoop for prolonged periods as may be necessary to access and prepare files is required.
