Responsibilities
The Central AI org's purpose is to accelerate AI innovation across all our products and platform, provide cohesive AI experiences and setup up an Atlassian AI infrastructure for the future.
While it's anticipated that the majority of AI-driven initiatives will be developed and executed by federated product teams within Atlassian, the role of Central AI is pivotal to this process. Central AI is tasked with constructing the underlying infrastructure and capacities, which are crucial for the seamless integration and optimal functionality of AI across various departments. Additionally, Central AI is responsible for developing some of the core shared experiences typical in the AI domain, such as search, knowledge discovery and conversation.
This role is within the Search and Data Ecosystem team which is responsible for building broad and deep SaaS applications connectors to bring in valuable third party data into Atlassian to power all AI experiences and strengthen Atlassian's competitive positioning.

To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $205,700 - $274,300
Zone B: $185,200 - $246,900
Zone C: $170,800 - $227,700
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

What you'll do
- Shape the forward-looking technical direction and long-term architecture for pillars in the Search and Data Ecosystem org.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and design leaders to influence the broader department-level strategy.
- Ensure that the technical strategy you build is aligned with the technical strategy of Atlassian products and platforms.
- Regularly unblock challenges faced in the software development cycle, from technical design to launch.
- Lead code reviews and documentation and take on complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk problems.
- Set the standards for shipping high quality code at high velocity by improving the developer experience.
- Mentor, hire and develop other engineers.
Qualifications
Your background
- Minimum of 12 years of hands-on experience in software/technology roles, in Enterprise Products & Solutions in the cloud.
- Proficiency with cloud-native technologies, ideally AWS.
- At least 2 years of experience architecting and implementing multiple features of a SaaS product at a high scale, performance and reliability of 4 nines.
- Experience with building and delivering multi-tenant cloud-native SaaS software.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, modern cloud-native architectures, and distributed data management.
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated success in articulating and pitching technical vision to stakeholders.
- Ability to balance short- and long-term objectives, focusing on both technical and business outcomes.
