Position: Senior Counsel

Department: Legal

Role Overview: Reporting to the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, the Senior Counsel provides legal counsel in support of the organization's legal affairs in furtherance of the organization's cultural, educational, and civic mission, with a focus on drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of contracts and advising on a range of legal issues.

What you'll get to do here:
  • Supporting the Legal team with drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of contracts and advising on a range of legal issues to ensure that the best interests of the organization are served.
  • Working on and taking ownership of a varied and changing portfolio of work, including contracts and issues which may relate to IT, data privacy and cybersecurity, intellectual property matters, operations, venue rentals, sponsorships, donor agreements, artistic commissions, co-productions, education, media production, sweepstakes/promotions, employment issues, organizational policies, and other matters within the core mission and ancillary activities of the organization.
  • Serving as the primary Legal contact for the IT Department, which will include specific focus on contracts, issues and policies related to technology, IT procurement, cybersecurity, data privacy and AI, and supporting innovation across digital initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with other Legal team members and law student interns, including sharing your expertise and providing training and oversight in areas where you have experience and knowledge.
  • Serving as a strategic problem solver, connector, and trusted business partner to non-legal colleagues.
  • Serving as an ambassador for Lincoln Center's Legal team by participating in Legal team initiatives, including conducting legal educational presentations for internal departments, interacting and working with outside counsel, law students, and other members of the non-profit community, and developing templates and processes to achieve efficiency in contracting.
  • Working collaboratively and proactively with the other members of the Legal team, Lincoln Center colleagues across all departments, and other Lincoln Center community members to meet the diversified legal needs of a complex, multi-faceted organization, and drive Lincoln Center's strategic and business objectives.

You'll be a fit if you bring:
  • JD, Member of NY State Bar.
  • 5+ years of legal experience directly related to the work specified above.
  • Significant contracts/transactional experience.
  • Experience with IT contracts/data privacy.
  • Non-profit and/or in-house legal experience is a plus.
  • Appreciation and enthusiasm for the arts is a plus.
  • Independent, analytical thinker.
  • Proactive team player.
  • Resourceful problem solver.
  • Superb legal skills and judgment.
  • Excellent contract drafting, writing and communications skills.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to deliver commercial-minded advice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities in a timely, efficient manner in a fast-paced environment.
  • A desire to learn and apply new areas of the law.
