Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Bacteriology Lab Technician to provide research support administration services for our government customer in Frederick, MD. In this role you will get to perform a variety of laboratory and research tasks to support bacterial pathogen studies and vaccine/therapeutic efforts.
Regular hours of work with the possibility of Weekends or extra weekly hours if needed.

Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Bacteriology Lab Technician to provide research support administration services for our government customer in Frederick, MD. In this role you will get to perform a variety of laboratory and research tasks to support bacterial pathogen studies and vaccine/therapeutic efforts.
Regular hours of work with the possibility of Weekends or extra weekly hours if needed.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Perform sample processing for 4 animal protocols.
- Manage equipment inventory twice a year; oversee BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory management monthly.
- Conduct up to 4 equipment validations and 4 method validations per year.
- Perform approximately 20 complement fixation assays and 6 small animal studies using murine models.
- Conduct approximately 5 minimum inhibition concentration antibiotic tests.
- Assist Principal Investigator (PI) with Non-human primate (NHP) studies to support vaccine/therapeutic efforts or animal modeling for bacterial pathogens of interest to the DoD.
- Perform RT-PCR and qPCR analyses.
- Execute approximately 25 cell biology/biochemical/microbiological tasks, including protein gel electrophoresis, western blot analysis, macrophage cell line growth, bacterial growth assays, and live-dead cell determinations.
- Process approximately 40 protein and western gels, 40 DNA chromosomal preparations, 500 PCR reactions, and 35 agar gel analyses per year.
- Prepare approximately 20 cloning plasmids, 50 sequencing reactions, and 90 plasmid preparations.
- Order equipment and supplies (50 GFEBS orders per year) and manage BSAT inventory weekly.
- Conduct monthly laboratory management, including safety functions and chemical inventory.
- Support approximately 20 cell-based assays to examine vaccine/therapeutic potency and pathogen-host interactions.
- Perform at least 20 macrophage invasion assays, including CFU determinations, cytokine analysis, or high-content imaging.
- Assist suite supervisor with BSL-2 and BSL-3 operations.
- Review relevant literature monthly and assist in preparing standard operating procedures and manuscripts.
- Present research findings at one scientific conference per year, which may require CONUS or OCONUS travel.
- Provide monthly Bacteriology Technical Support reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in a related science field with 3-5 years of laboratory experience.
- Direct experience supporting animal protocols, small animal studies, NHP studies, and using murine models.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in equipment inventory management and laboratory management within BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments.
- Experience in equipment validations and method validations.
- Proficiency in protein gel electrophoresis, western blot analysis, macrophage cell line growth, bacterial growth assays, and live-dead cell determinations.
- Experience preparing microbiological media, DNA chromosomal preparations, PCR reactions, agar gel analysis, cloning plasmids, sequencing reactions, and plasmid preparations.
- Experience performing complement fixation assays, inhibition concentration antibiotic testing, vaccine/therapeutic efforts, and RT-PCR and qPCR analyses.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI clearance,
- BPRP and CS-PRP enrollment required.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
- Experience with GFEBS preferred.
