The Plant Engineering Manager is responsible for the oversight of the Engineering and Maintenance departments for the facility. The Plant Engineering Manager manages a staff of project engineers, maintenance staff, CAD staff and temporary engineering staff (e.g. engineering interns) and is part of the Plant leadership team, reporting to the Director of Manufacturing.

He/She must ensure successful execution of the facilities capital program which can include multiple projects with varying scope, timelines and capital expenditures. He/She develops and manages the overall facility capital budget and the facility maintenance budget.

He/She will also ensure that all engineering aspects of projects as well as associated documentation are in compliance with local and Colgate QIT, legal and EHS regulations. The primary accountabilities of the role include oversight of project viability, project schedule adherence, project cost containment, technology transfer and corporate EHS and Quality standards compliance. Additionally the Plant Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the MRO (Materials, Repairs and Operating Supplies) program and identifying other potential opportunities for margin improvement.

He/She will build relationships with R&D, Division and Subsidiary business and Supply Chain management, Global Product Supply Engineering, Global Packaging, Quality and EHS departments, as well as outside consultants and suppliers to ensure the business and technical objectives of all projects are satisfied.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management: Monitor project progress, modify plans and initiate corrective actions based on feedback and changes. Provide support and guidance to project engineers in managing projects. Communicate and manage issues/risks with corporate/divisional leadership

Financial Management: Develop/implement facility Capital Budget. Ensure programs meet financial hurdles prescribed by corporate on % savings contribution, Return on Investment (ROI) and pay back period (DPP). Review and approve Work Orders using the e-MWO database. Monitor ongoing project cost and adherence to budget. Support and manage facility operational budgets, including buildings, utilities, security, cafeteria etc., consistent with the role of the engineering function

People Management: Direct the continuous improvement of the Project Engineering and Maintenance staff by selecting, recruiting, developing, and retaining highly competent people. Develop and implement performance evaluations, career development opportunities, and succession planning programs for the department. Define and implement changes to the organizational structure as needed to achieve goals.

Maintenance Management: Implements preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Provide adequate tools and training necessary to implement those programs. Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for equipment lifecycle optimization, cost control, crewing optimization and continuous improvement. Ensure spare parts stock and inventory levels are managed to divisional financial goals. Develop and negotiate site maintenance contracts.

Technical/Continuous Improvement: Ensure the integrity of process or packing equipment specifications, layouts/designs, electrical and controls requirements and project documentation. Stay abreast of latest technical developments and identify potential applications for manufacturing continuous improvement. Utilize risk analysis, evaluate vertical integration possibilities and conduct benchmarking.

On-going Vendor Management and Factory Acceptance Testing: Ensure appropriate protocols are followed for ongoing vendor management and shop testing/factory acceptance testing.

Asset Management: Responsible for the timely capitalization of assets, management of surplus equipment and use of global idle equipment databases for capital avoidance. Review and analyze plant process capacity data and identify bottlenecks. Develop a five year site plan in partnership with the Director of Manufacturing.

Verify EMOs for process/equipment compliance and personnel training, achieve expected Cp/CpK and asset utilization, and develop contingency plans with the Manufacturing Director.

Technology Transfer: Ensure learnings on projects are appropriately captured, communicated and applied. Appropriate involvement in selected Continuous Improvement Reviews (CIR's), Risk Analyses CIP's/FMEA's, Communities of Practice etc.

Changeover Management: Optimize changeover practices and identify opportunities for ongoing improvement.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor' s Degree
  • At least 8 years of working experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management, capital expenditure or maintenance
  • Working experience in a manufacturing environment
  • People management experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors's Degree in Engineering
  • Master's degree
  • Experience with SAP


Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range $150,000.00 - $168,500.00 USD

Pay is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Salaried employees may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing, and long-term incentives for Executive-level roles.

Benefits: Salaried employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, paid parental leave, disability coverage, and participation in the 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include a minimum of 15 vacation/PTO days (hourly employees receive a minimum of 120 hours) and 13 paid holidays (vacation days are prorated based on the employee's hire date within the calendar year). Paid sick leave is adjusted based on role and location in accordance with local laws. Detailed information regarding paid sick leave entitlements will be provided to employees upon hiring and may be subject to adjustments based on changes in legislation or company policies.
