The Controller will lead the day-to-day operations of the company's accounting department, managing the accounting team, monthly close, internal controls, and compliance processes. This person will work closely with the senior leadership team-particularly the head of finance-to ensure accurate financial reporting, support budgeting and forecasting processes, and collaborate on strategic analysis and decision-making. The Controller will play a critical role in preparing financial data, managing audits, and maintaining compliance across all jurisdictions.

The Controller will lead the day-to-day operations of the company's accounting department, managing the accounting team, monthly close, internal controls, and compliance processes. This person will work closely with the senior leadership team-particularly the head of finance-to ensure accurate financial reporting, support budgeting and forecasting processes, and collaborate on strategic analysis and decision-making. The Controller will play a critical role in preparing financial data, managing audits, and maintaining compliance across all jurisdictions.
Job Functions
- Manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including AP/AR, general ledger, payroll, and month-end close.
- Maintain and improve the system of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP (and international accounting standards where applicable).
- Collaborate with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis; prepare supporting data and documentation.
- Partner in the preparation and preliminary review of financial statements; coordinate with auditors and assist with any required schedules or explanations.
- Oversee audit process and serve as the primary liaison to external auditors and tax advisors.
- Manage compliance with federal, state, and local regulations-including sales/use tax, VAT (for international entities), and other required filings.
- Monitor company performance against budget and recommend improvements or cost controls.
- Maintain compliance with bank and lender reporting requirements; support covenant monitoring and financial package preparation.
- Recommend benchmarks and KPIs to improve the effectiveness and transparency of financial operations.
- Support process improvement initiatives and system upgrades or implementations (e.g., ERP, reporting tools).
Key Characteristics
- Strong leadership and people management skills; able to oversee and mentor a the accounting team.
- Deep understanding of accounting principles, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Experience managing audits and preparing supporting documentation for external advisors.
- Strong systems skills; familiarity with Dynamics GP, Jet Reports, and Power Query a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized; pride in delivering accurate, timely results.
- Process-driven mindset with a continuous improvement orientation.
- Collaborative, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Demonstrated success in a multi-entity, international, or project-based services organization is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with ASC 842 (leases), ASC 606 (revenue), and fixed asset accounting preferred.
- Detail Oriented - project success metrics are based on 100% accuracy; ideal candidate takes pride in delivering the highest quality work
- Flexibility -ideal candidate must be flexible and embrace the opportunities that come with potential change
- Process Oriented/Innovation Driven - ideal candidate will work within the defined workflows, but will also keep a critical eye on our processes to help MD7 make Continuous Improvements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA strongly preferred; CMA or experience with international operations (e.g., IFRS, VAT) is a plus.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role. Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager in a multi-entity or project-driven company preferred
