What you'll be doing...

Verizon seeks a qualified Senior Manager, Government Relations to join its State and Local Government Affairs team. This position will be responsible for supporting state and local public policy and community engagement. The candidate will serve as an advocate for Verizon, building strong relationships in the community, advocating for broadband expansion, developing policy and political strategy on a range of issues that include privacy, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and other key policy issues.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and collaborating with various Verizon lines of business to execute legislative strategy, community engagement tactics and content in support of company goals in the New England region and beyond.
  • Planning and executing strategies to ensure that any municipal and state legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company.
  • Interacting with and strengthening relationships with members of municipal and state administrative and legislative bodies.
  • Representing Verizon with third party advocates to influence local policy makers at the municipal and state government levels to advance policy agenda.
  • Accountable for strengthening Verizon's political impact and community engagement by leveraging extensive network and government experience.
  • Supporting Verizon state regulatory team to influence decisions in key initiatives.
  • High level of expertise in advocacy/issues management, community organizing, and coalition-building.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the municipal and state level.
  • Serving as primary strategic liaison to company affiliations, special business, third party groups, grassroots local influencers and thought leaders.
  • Providing team direction on communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders.
  • Planning and developing strategic messaging on key policy issues and business initiatives.
  • Representing Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony at legislative hearings and community meetings that address issues impacting Verizon.
  • Compiling competitive intelligence.


What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
  • Experience in the development, management and advocacy of telecommunications, broadband, cable TV and utilities policies and positions.
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiating issues in support of corporate goals and objectives.
  • Experience working with all levels of management.
  • Willingness to travel within territory in personally owned vehicle.
  • Ability to work both during normal business hours, as well as evenings and weekends should the circumstances require availability.


Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Law degree or experience in legal matters.
  • Public policy, community engagement, advocacy experience on behalf of a technology, communications, cable or public utilities business/industry.
  • Broad knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Self-starter and evidence of intellectual curiosity.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Highest level of personal integrity.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
