Description: The primary responsibilities of the Bilingual Teacher on Special Assignment will be to teach English Language Learning (ELL) students basic English words and phrases needed to function in a school setting, provide instruction on school procedures and behavioral expectations (iBElieve), as well as academic organization, stress management, and time management. The teacher will provide academic support for the student's core academic classes (primarily math and English Language Arts), while also facilitating team building and other group activities, and holding open dialog sessions to discuss areas of success and challenges. Collaboration will also take place with parents/guardians, members of the district ELL task Force, and outside agencies to foster and promote student's sense of belonging and academic competence.

THIS IS A THREE YEAR GRANT FUNDED POSITION.
Applicant must be bilingual in English and Spanish.

Location 2 : Horace O' Bryant Elementary/Middle School 1105 Leon Street, Key West, FL 33040
Applicant must have transportation as this position requires travel between two schools daily. The two schools are less than one mile apart.

Salary: Base Salary ranges from $62,100 to $102,300, commensurate with experience.

Eligibility for Florida certification is required. Florida certification in ESOL K-12 is preferred. The Bureau of Educator Certification has developed instructional videos to guide applicants through the certification process, covering topics such as Florida's Online Educator Certification System Set-up and the Florida Teacher Certification Application. How to Become FL Certified in ESOL (Grades K-12):
  • Out-of-State Certification: If you hold an unexpired, out-of-state, professional educator certificate in this subject area, please apply for Florida reciprocity.
  • ESOL Major: Commonly accepted bachelor's (or higher degree) majors for a Florida temporary educator certificate include: English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Other Majors: For other degree majors, pass the subject area exam in ESOL K-12. This 2.5 hour computer based test is 80 multiple choice questions. Locate a test center. Study materials are available for purchase through The Learning Liaisons and 240 Tutoring. Free sample questions are available here. If at first you don't succeed, you may retest every 30 days. The exam costs $150, unless you have an approved Military Vet or Spouse Certification Fee Waiver or Retired First Responder Fee Waiver. Scores are automatically reported to the FLDOE.
