This Procurement leader will play a strategic role in building a next-generation approach to Procurement as the function transforms to become a trusted business partner and an enabler of key business strategy, along with customer of choice for suppliers. The Associate Director, Third Party Manufacturing Procurement, Drug Delivery Device, is responsible for leading strategic procurement for AbbVie's contracted drug delivery device category. Products include mechanical/electromechanical devices, combination products, auto injectors, injection molded components and related accessories/ancillaries.

This Procurement leader will lead the development of cross functionally derived category strategies across the device portfolio. Utilizing a strong understanding of the medical device industry, the role is expected to formulate a robust and redundant supply base capable of supporting AbbVie's current business and growth pipeline.

The (Associate Director) partners with VP-level business or functional stakeholder(s) to develop global procurement strategies, contributing to a cross-functional team that informs strategy through analysis, market expertise, and understanding of broader business objectives. This role builds an annual strategic plan and leads a team of managers to achieve ambitious performance targets aligned with organizational goals.

Major Responsibilities:

Lead engagement with business stakeholders within designated therapeutic area, serving as the primary point of accountability within the procurement organization.

Direct category managers in strategy formulation, aligning with business requirements and leveraging in-depth market intelligence and insights.

Drive value creation initiatives, identify cross-functional synergies, and contribute to continuous improvement in procurement processes by challenging the status quo.

Manage P&L alignment and Spend savings, developing strategic plans to reduce total cost of ownership.

Strategically oversee the interconnected risks between business operations and procurement activities, ensuring a proactive and unified approach to risk mitigation across the organization.

Champion and guide supplier innovation initiatives while maintaining oversight of key supplier relationships and ensuring alignment with both procurement and broader business objectives

Initiate and lead transformative procurement projects, establishing cross-functional governance and securing support from senior business stakeholders.

Persistently refine and optimize the interplay of business processes between procurement and different business functions, focusing on fostering seamless collaboration and maximizing efficiency in all procurement-related activities.

Work closely with business teams to accurately gauge both current and future workforce requirements, strategically guiding the development and organization of the procurement team to meet these evolving needs

Embody the role of mentor and leader within the procurement organization, nurturing a culture that values excellence and innovation, and encourages continuous growth and development

Qualifications

In-depth category expertise combined with robust cost analysis and business function acumen, enabling sound decision-making in procurement.

Exceptional internal stakeholder management, adept at aligning procurement strategies with business needs and fostering strategic supplier relationships.

Strategic thinker with a high sense of accountability, focusing on long-term planning and responsible decision-making that challenges the status quo.

Innovative problem-solving skills complemented by a strong executive presence, enabling effective leadership and influential communication at all organizational levels.

Proven ability in cross-functional leadership and influence, coupled with adept conflict resolution skills to maintain positive working relationships.

High emotional intelligence and soft skills, facilitating empathetic and effective interactions, even under stress.

Strong autonomy in work, demonstrating the ability to operate independently and take initiative in various situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Mgmt., or related field. Masters degree is preferred.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement, supply chain or related business or operations function.

Previous experience driving cross-functional projects to completion and managing senior internal stakeholders.

Strong executive presence and ability to influence across the organization.

Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
