Job Summary:

This position will manage all aspects of the Conformance Inspection (CI) testing of Teledyne FLIR Defense Tactical Solutions line of business as the final step in the production process prior to shipment. CI consists of sample lot testing that includes but is not limited to Thermal and Dynamic Environmental stress testing and product operational checks, with comprehensive data capture throughout the test phase. The Manager will develop, plan and execute effective, efficient and flexible test strategies utilizing applicable world-class manufacturing methodologies and related systems. Through subordinate group leaders and lead technicians, and in collaboration with all other facets of Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, Quality, and Design Engineering, the position will manage CI to achieve expected high-level performance. This position will manage a team of approximately 12 direct and indirect reports.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manage labor capacity and cross-training skill level mix to meet current and planned conformance inspection test needs.
  • Establish practices to achieve optimum quality and test cycle time.
  • Provide leadership to ensure accurate and proper capacity planning and product scheduling that meet customer and business requirements.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Production to ensure technical issues are prioritized and resolved in an efficient and expedient manner.
  • Ensure test reports, failure notifications, and adequate root cause and corrective actions (RC/CA) steps are completed per contractual time requirements.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to select and manage capital equipment required to ensure an efficient manufacturing capability that meets current and future production requirements.
  • Ensure conformance with quality systems and ISO standards.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and execute plans for departmental budget, capital equipment, and human resources to meet quarterly and fiscal year production objectives.
  • Establish processes and practices that optimize the flow of materials into and through the test activities to minimize schedule delays.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Production Planning, Quality Assurance, and Service to develop effective manufacturing processes, practices, and capabilities.
  • Provide effective goal setting, coaching, and performance feedback to employees and conduct timely and thorough performance reviews.
  • Lead selection, retention, and development of department staff to meet customer expectations and line of business requirements.


Job Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of progressive technical experience within a high-tech military manufacturing/quality control environment.
  • 4-5+ years of strong hands-on leadership experience in manufacturing and/or design engineering.
  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in a technical field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing process controls as well as applied knowledge of advanced world-class manufacturing methodologies is highly desired.
  • Direct related experience with MIL-STD-810G testing and qualifications strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with thermal chamber, shock and vibration tables, and other scientific test equipment.
  • Excellent demonstrated communication skills and people management skills.
  • Experience in Project Management a plus.
