Location

Successful candidate must reside within 50-miles of an Elevance office, and able to work a hybrid in-office schedule (3 days/week).

Summary

The Staff Vice President & Chief of Staff to the President of Carelon Rx will act as a strategic partner and advisor, overseeing high-level initiatives, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and driving forward the President's vision for the organization. This position is responsible for enabling effective executive decision-making, providing strategic thought leadership, coordinating major programs, and integrating processes that align with the organization's mission, financial planning, and long-term growth objectives. The incumbent will ensure that strategic imperatives and special projects are executed efficiently and effectively while fostering innovation, alignment, and collaboration across Carelon Rx.

Position Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership & Advisory
    • Serves as a trusted advisor to the President, providing insight, recommendations, and guidance on complex strategic issues.
    • Directs, monitors, and contributes to special and strategic projects to ensure alignment with corporate goals.
    • Supports, assists, coordinates, and collaborates with leadership on critical initiatives and business transformation projects.
    • Organizes, problem-solves, identifies risks, and escalates issues to integrate initiatives, solutions, and actions across functional areas.
  • Executive Liaison & Implementation
    • Acts as an executive liaison to resolve high-impact challenges and ensures successful implementation of company initiatives.
    • Collaborates with senior leaders to develop and refine long-range business strategies, ensuring alignment with financial and operational objectives.
    • Leads comprehensive strategic and annual planning processes, integrating them with enterprise-wide financial planning.
  • Governance & Organizational Effectiveness
    • Designs and executes governance frameworks and processes that enable clear accountability, decision-making, and communication.
    • Develops executive presentations and organizational communications, ensuring consistent messaging across business units.
    • Establishes and leads effective governance committees or task forces in order to drive accountability and measurable outcomes.
  • Research & Analysis
    • Leverages data analytics and insights to identify emerging trends and evaluate strategic opportunities or potential risks.
  • Team Management & Talent Development
    • Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports, building a high-performing, collaborative team.
    • Provides mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to cultivate the next generation of leaders.


Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Business, Healthcare Administration, Pharmacy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience, ideally with exposure to strategic planning, operations management, and cross-functional leadership in complex organizations.
  • Any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background will be considered.

    • Proven ability to shape and drive business strategy, identifying growth opportunities, operational efficiencies, and competitive differentiators.
    • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate high-level objectives into actionable plans.
    • Demonstrated success orchestrating cross-functional teams and managing complex, enterprise-wide initiatives from conception to completion.
    • Deep knowledge of project methodologies, stakeholder alignment, change management principles, and communication strategies.
  • Pharmacy Knowledge
    • Comprehensive understanding of the pharmacy benefits management industry or broader pharmaceutical sector, including trends, regulations, and best practices.
    • Familiarity with pharmacy operations, formulary management, clinical programs, and other PBM-related processes is highly desirable.
  • Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
    • Exceptional communication skills-both written and verbal-with an ability to influence, negotiate, and build consensus at the executive level.
    • Strong relationship-building capabilities, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and trust among leaders and teams.
    • A keen sense of diplomacy and discretion, with the proven ability to handle highly confidential information.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Abilities
    • Strong analytical mindset with the capacity to interpret complex data sets, identify insights, and drive business decisions.
    • Sound judgment, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills to resolve barriers and maintain momentum for key initiatives.
    • Former consulting experience with evidence of leading strategic, large-scale projects.
    • Pharmacy or PBM background highly desirable, with demonstrated knowledge of pharmacy operations, industry regulations, and market dynamics.
    • Proven ability to integrate financial analysis with strategic business planning, ensuring that operational initiatives deliver measurable financial outcomes.
    • MBA or other advanced degree in a relevant discipline strongly preferred.


Corporate Title: Staff VP Strategy and Planning

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the salary* range for this specific position is $191,840 to $345,312
