Business Systems Specialist
Reporting to the Manager of Business Solutions, the Business Systems Specialist builds, implements, and maintains a reliable and secure applications environment by overseeing corporate and departmental business systems, specifically the AMANDA property management system. This position installs software systems, performs application upgrades, maintains the environments, and supports enhancements including integrations with other systems. All components of the systems are the responsibility of this role including databases, integrations, reporting, and client software. As an ongoing support role, the Business Systems Specialist provides technical support and training to internal staff, promotes the effective use of applications, and consults with business partners to ensure issues are dealt with effectively in a timely manner. This role also serves as a liaison and primary contact to the business teams that use the systems, as well as to vendors and other municipalities.

Business Systems Specialist

As an ongoing support role, the Business Systems Specialist provides technical support and training to internal staff, promotes the effective use of applications, and consults with business partners to ensure issues are dealt with effectively in a timely manner. This role also serves as a liaison and primary contact to the business teams that use the systems, as well as to vendors and other municipalities.
Key Duties
- Serves as the primary IT resource in support of business applications, specifically the AMANDA property management system. This includes application security, user privileges, data integrity, backup strategies, disaster recovery, change management, system integrations, documentation, training, vendor and customer management, license monitoring, and reporting requirements.
- Resolves operational problems with applications in consultation with business stakeholders, vendors, and other IT personnel
- Responsible for supporting Oracle and SQL Server databases. This includes creating, maintaining, patching, import/export, batch jobs, backup, and restore.
- For customizable applications, works with business partners to design and implement process enhancements to meet their business requirements.
- Identifies and recommends opportunities to improve application usage by keeping current on application capabilities, best practices, and future directions.
- Leads/participates in internal and external user groups to promote application utilization.
- Works on complex problems that often require creative and possibly customized solutions.
- Designs, develops, implements, and maintains reports using Crystal Reports and other third-party reporting and business intelligence tools.
- Serves as backup to other Business Systems Specialists and their identified responsibilities.
- Completion of a post-secondary education in computer science, information systems, systems analysis, programming, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years' experience with enterprise level application support in a corporate IT environment including system implementations, integrations, and upgrades
- Technical competency with Oracle and SQL Server database management systems and the query language SQL
- Proficiency with various programming and markup languages
- Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, and data normalization
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Comfortable with leading meetings and group training sessions.
- Ability to provide a current Criminal Reference Check satisfactory to the Town of Ajax
What is Offered to Staff
- Rate of Pay: $84,238 - $105,298 per year
- Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works 35 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
