PURPOSE:

Jewish Community Services (JCS) takes a population health approach to supporting the mental health and well-being of New York Citys Jewish community. JCS works to reduce stigma, prioritize prevention, and strengthen the resiliency of individuals, families, and communities. Key areas of focus include grief, addiction, and teen mental health initiatives. JCS engages and equips Jewish communal organizations to provide mental health support to their members through psychoeducation and resources, peer-led initiatives, and screening/referrals for treatment when needed.

Position Overview:

The Senior Director of Population Health will lead the development and implementation of key initiatives aimed at improving the mental health, wellness, and resiliency of Jewish New Yorkers. This includes the branding of program initiatives, designing frameworks for peer-led work, creating educational materials, and identifying platforms through which resources and information can be shared broadly with the community. The senior director will oversee the design and execution of annual conferences, retreats, and programming that positions JCS as a convener for professionals and lay leaders within Jewish community. The senior director will utilize outcome measures to track the impact of initiatives and inform continuous improvement.

This position reports to the Deputy Director and is responsible for supervising program staff, fostering collaboration across agency departments, and engaging with community stakeholders to expand JCSs reach. In addition to leading the team, the Senior Director will oversee hiring, training, performance management, and professional development to ensure a skilled and effective staff

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise and support staff leading initiatives in grief, teen mental health, wellness, and other emergent issues.
  • Ensure that all initiatives are culturally sensitive and meet the needs of the Jewish community.
  • Work collaboratively with the marketing team and the Assistant Director of Community Engagement to develop and implement branding strategies that enhance the visibility, reach, and impact of JCS initiatives within the Jewish community
  • Oversee the development of educational presentations, workshops, and training for community members and organizations.Assist in implementation when indicated.
  • Supervise the creation of newsletters, social media posts and marketing strategies to share valuable resources and information.
  • Design conferences and collaborative spaces to develop thought leadership and engage professionals and community members in meaningful conversations.
  • Oversee the development and execution of new initiatives to address community needs, as they emerge.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with synagogues, schools, community organizations, and other partners.
  • Represent JCS at community events, coalitions, and relevant forums.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and professional development for program staff.
  • Establish measurable goals and outcomes for programs to track impact and success.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to build partnerships.
  • Experience in using data to assess needs, measure outcomes, and inform program improvements.
  • Ability to navigate change, respond to community crises, and adjust programming to meet evolving needs

EDUCATIONAL / TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Masters degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices in mental health, substance abuse, and grief support.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / LANGUAGE PREFERENCE:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in population health, mental health program leadership, or a related field.
  • Minimum three-plus years supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Experience working within or alongside Jewish communal organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing community-based health initiatives.
  • Strong cultural competence in regard to Jewish religious, spiritual, cultural and communal practice.
  • Bilingual in English and Hebrew is a plus.

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED :

  • Experience with excel and data collection. Proficiency in utilizing power point to create training materials and presentations.

VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXIERITY:

  • The candidate should be able to read paper and electronic documents and perform significant data entry into various computer programs.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to travel independently using public transportation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • This role is hybrid; it will include community-based work that requires travel to different locations within the five boroughs.
  • To perform the essential functions of this job the candidate must be able to travel within the five boroughs carrying equipment such as a notebook, forms, laptop, mobile hotspot and cell phone weighing up to approximately 10 pounds.
