Supply Chain Area Senior Manager:

This position reports directly to the Director of Global Supply Chain and is accountable for the facilitation and creation of supply chain strategies in key part families. The group that this strategically focused supply chain position exists focuses on mid to long term strategies to position the supply based for success by optimizing variables such as but not limited to capacity, growth, total cost, risk, capability, velocity, and quality. Within this group are some of Global Supply Chain's more senior and skilled Sourcing Specialists, Supplier Technical Engineers, and Business Process Leads. Directly reporting to this position will be multiple one or more Supply Chain Managers accountable for Supply Chain Services and Compliance.

This position collaborates and seamlessly communicates with management at all levels. The leader creates a competitive advantage for the enterprise by developing short and long term supply chain strategies and by mitigating risk. In addition, this position works closely with other Solar leaders in Marketing, Business Management, Engineering, Operations, and Customer Services to influence manufacturing / development decisions based on future supply availability / feasibility and product cost impacts.

Area Manager:
  • Is a leader of leaders setting global Supply Chain strategies goals for various supply chain groups, monitoring progress to goals, and taking action to ensure objectives are met
  • Provides leadership in risk identification and mitigation plans
  • Provides leadership for major business capacity additions & cost reduction initiatives
  • Champions inventory turns growth strategies
  • Provides strategic leadership for supply chain related regulatory or compliance initiatives such as Country of Origin, conflict minerals, and sustainability topics related to carbon reduction and reporting
  • Collaborates seamlessly with peer Supply Chain leaders and Supply Chain Process Leads to ensure Supply Chain processes are efficient, compliant, and consistently followed across geographical regions
  • Ensure responsible Supply Chain organizations are synchronized with Solar's Manufacturing Operations and Customer Services

  • Is accountable for continuously maintaining and improving the supplier risk measurement algorithm
  • Is accountable for ensuring that each Supply Chain value stream maintains a high performing team of Supply Chain professionals
  • Is accountable for developing and maintaining skills matrices for each individual contributing member of the Global Supply Chain
  • Helps develop local country solutions, where required for applicable commodities
  • Manages departmental budgets, staffing / employee costs, succession plans, capital plans & budgets to ensure annual business plan commitments are met


Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success in the areas of strategy, complex problem solving, collaboration, team leadership
  • Prior supply chain experience in buying, engineering, planning or sourcing
  • 7+ years of Managerial experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, supply chain, economics, engineering
  • 15+ years of industry experience
  • Procurement of other relevant commercial background (i.e., Business Management)
  • Experience negotiating and managing contracts
  • Strong history of achieving results
  • History of driving Continuous Improvement success
  • Ability to collaborate and work at all levels within and outside the company
  • Strong knowledge of planning, manufacturing and engineering principles


Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep Commercial experience, preferably in a strategic supply chain
  • Master's Degree or greater in business or supply chain management
  • Previous Lean, 6 Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt or Sponsor experience
  • Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management also e.g., Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), Certified in Production and Inventory Management, (CPIM), Certified in Integration Resource Management (CIRM), and/or Certified Supply Chain, Professional (CSCP).
  • Experience in additional disciplines preferred, e.g., purchasing, logistics, business management, manufacturing, and/or engineering.


The location of this position is in San Diego, CA and will provide domestic relocation if needed. Remote work is not an option for this position.

Summary Pay Range:
$169,206.00 - $253,808.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
