Amazon Shipyard operates a device lab in Seattle dedicated to supporting our Global Real Estate and Information Security functions. The Lab Support Engineer will be lead technical and security reviews for building devices and lead or participate in company-wide user groups to exchange support information, procedures, and best practices. Installing new types of devices, hooking up test equipment, troubleshooting, optimizing, and keeping the infrastructures up and running for Shipyard's internal clients is the key to success in the role. You will own the quality and availability of your work and be expected to hold a high bar for device cybersecurity. A substantial portion of your responsibilities will include documenting systems, security findings, and controls.
Key job responsibilities
* Design, set up and maintain test fixtures to verify software on real hardware, create and maintain lab documentation
* Troubleshoot hardware, software and networking issues
* Contribute to engineering efforts from design to implementation, solving complex technical challenges around developer and engineering productivity and velocity especially as it relates to rapid test iteration
* Drive adoption of best practices in testbed maintainability
* Manage equipment stock, procure lab equipment
* Participate in lab on-call rotation to ensure lab equipment uptime meets SLA
* Provide lab services to people working remotely (be the eyes and hands in the lab)
* Provide technical support to customers using the lab
A day in the life
The successful applicant will be experienced in keeping technical infrastructure running smoothly and balancing high priority issues. You should be comfortable taking on ambiguous challenges like setting up new pre-production hardware for the first time. You should be able to define standard operating procedures, metrics and alarms to keep the infrastructure highly available and expand technical capabilities over time. You will be invaluable to enabling the team to move quickly and confidently with robust infrastructure that scales with our customers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of software development, or 2+ years of technical support experience
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
- Experience with networking basics through work or education
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with AWS, networks and operating systems
- Experience with physical security systems (such as Lenel, Honeywell, AMAG, Bosch, Milestone) or their associated hardware

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $52,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $118,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
