Job Description

The Manager, Infection Prevention and Employee Health Services is responsible for planning, developing, and executing infection prevention and employee health programs, policies, and procedures for assigned hospitals. Serves as the regulatory and accreditation expert, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and accrediting body requirements. Leads survey readiness efforts, including on-site audits, compliance reporting, and corrective action oversight under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and the Regional VP, Quality, Risk, & Accreditation. Collaborates with local health departments and Infection Prevention Committees, and oversees surveillance, prevention, and control of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), infectious diseases, and communicable diseases while implementing best practices to prevent transmission. Supervises Infection Prevention staff, provides ongoing education to hospital personnel. Facilitates evidence-based infection prevention initiatives, reviews regulatory action plans before submission, and supports compliance efforts. Acts as a resource for CMS regulatory programs, federal and state reporting, and NHSN data submission.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the CNO and Regional VP - Quality, Patient Safety, & Risk Management, develops and implements Infection Control and Employee Health Services programs for assigned hospital, ensuring adherence to nationally recognized infection prevention and control guidelines. Collaborates with applicable Medical Directors to promote best practices for improving antibiotic use and reducing the development and transmission of HAIs and antibiotic-resistant organisms. Works in conjunction with the hospital-wide Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program to address identified issues. Serves as the regulatory and accreditation subject matter expert, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as accrediting organization requirements, particularly in infection prevention and infectious disease management.
  • Supports new strategic initiatives and clinical program development, overseeing infection control research and the implementation of evidence-based best practices. Develops and executes infection prevention strategies to control the transmission of infections within and between healthcare settings. Provides ongoing staff education on the Infection Control Prevention Plan and mentors staff on epidemiological strategies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Ensures staff competency through in-service education programs related to infection prevention.
  • Under the direction of the CNO, develops, plans, and ensures completion of annual employee health and pre-hire requirements. Oversees the collection, validation, and timely reporting of HAI and NHSN program data. Designs, develops, and implements quality and patient safety improvement programs to maintain organizational readiness for licensing and accreditation surveys, including Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory bodies. In collaboration with the Regional VP - Quality, Patient Safety, & Risk Management, plans and executes system-wide quarterly regulatory and accreditation education programs, including conference calls and content distribution.
  • Educates, mentors, and actively participates in company initiatives, such as employee engagement, to foster a team-oriented culture. Acts as a coach and role model, maintaining a safe work environment that supports staff morale. Responsible for hiring, training, performance evaluations, competency assessments, and disciplinary processes.
  • Oversees compliance with AIA, ASHRAE, AORN, AAMI, APIC, and other regulatory/licensing standards for construction projects, EOC, and applicable departments. Collaborates with departments to ensure ongoing surveillance and adherence to the Infection Control Prevention Plan. Supports accreditation processes, including triennial surveys, PPR surveys, unannounced audits, and complaint investigations. Analyzes surveillance data to identify trends and implement strategies for improving S3 scores.

  • In collaboration with the California Department of Public Health, communicates with CA hospitals to develop, manage, and monitor surveillance plans for infectious disease emergencies. Evaluates and ensures the availability of appropriate PPE throughout assigned facilities.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in Health or Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of least five (3) years of experience in the acute healthcare setting plus minimum of at least three (3) years of direct infection prevention/quality/performance improvement experience in an acute care setting.
  • AHA Basic Life Support
  • Excellent financial skills including budgeting, forecasting, and strategic fiscal planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Computer literacy and proficiency
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local regulatory standards
  • Strong Organizational and Time Management skills with ability to effectively prioritize tasks

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Leadership experience in clinical and/or administrative role in a complex or multi-hospital system
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
  • RN or LVN Licensure

Pay Rate: Min - $113,400 | Max - $155,950
