What you can expect to do here:
  • Independently design AC and DC traction power systems, including traction power substations, single-line diagrams, layout plans, and equipment specifications.
  • Lead detailed power system modeling and simulation to ensure system efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Develop and review grounding and bonding designs in compliance with CSA, IEEE, and local safety standards.
  • Identify and mitigate issues related to DC stray current corrosion and electromagnetic interference (EMI/EMC).
  • Collaborate with teams across signaling, track, overhead catenary, rolling stock, and civil works to ensure integrated system design.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, calculations, technical specifications, and compliance reports.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, providing ongoing technical guidance and project updates throughout the lifecycle.

What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline. A master's degree is an asset.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in traction power engineering, preferably within rail and transit projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Ontario, or eligible for licensure.
  • Excellent Technical report and specification writing ability as well as written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of AC/DC traction power systems, substation design, protection coordination, and equipment ratings.
    • Familiarity with other disciplines in rail and transit projects and their interfaces with traction power systems
    • Proficient with power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, MATLAB Simulink) and CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Revit).
    • Familiarity with EMC/EMI mitigation, stray current protection, and grounding design best practices.
