The Director of Salary Cap Management reports directly to the Executive General Manage within the Department of Athletics and is responsible for overseeing the financial and commercial operations related to assigned sport programs. This position is vital in managing salary cap, strategic business planning, contract management, sponsorships, and marketing efforts to enhance the financial standing and overall success of assigned programs.

Vanderbilt University's Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity, character, sportsmanship and victory. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the conference's only private school. The university fields 17 varsity teams (6 men's teams and 11 women's teams), 15 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Salary Cap Management is responsible for overseeing the financial and commercial operations related to assigned sport programs. This position is vital in managing salary cap, strategic business planning, contract management, sponsorships, and marketing efforts to enhance the financial standing and overall success of assigned sports.
This position will be tasked with overseeing and managing the business-related aspects of assigned athletic programs, ensuring financial growth, operational efficiency, and compliance with relevant regulations. This role serves as a strategic liaison between the sport program, sponsors, media, vendors, and the broader athletic department, with a focus on maximizing revenue opportunities and supporting the program's long-term sustainability.
Serving as a key component in growing the business side of sport programs, this role requires a blend of business acumen, negotiation skills, financial knowledge, and a passion for collegiate athletics.
Key functions include:
Revenue Sharing
Program and Student-Athlete Relations
Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive General Manager and/or the Vice Chancellor for Athletics and University Affairs/Athletics Director.

Key functions include:
Revenue Sharing
- Manage assigned sports to ensure they have the necessary infrastructure to thrive within the revenue-sharing model
- Collaborate with senior department leaders to create and manage budgets for sport programs
- Analyze financial reports and ensure business activities align with department fiscal goals
- Serve as a capologist for sport programs to ensure budgetary responsibility
- Operate as a liaison and support to the NIL collective
Program and Student-Athlete Relations
- Cultivate and manage relationships with coaches/staff and student-athletes
- Collaborate with department stakeholders on NIL for assigned sport programs
Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive General Manager and/or the Vice Chancellor for Athletics and University Affairs/Athletics Director.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree is necessary.
- A Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5+ years of related work experience in collegiate and/or professional sports is necessary.
- Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations is necessary.
- Ability to handle and communicate confidential and sensitive information is necessary.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively is necessary.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is necessary.
- High level of organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities is necessary.
