  • Leadership and management: Lead the multi-discipline Engineering and NPD team spanning all team demands including ad hoc support of the organization, customer orders (engineering-to-order), continuous improvement projects, and new product development.
  • Design & Development: Oversee the design, development, and improvement of equipment. This includes specifying requirements, ensuring equipment design meets safety, quality, and performance standards, and leading the design process across all engineering disciplines.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Manage the prototyping, testing, and validation phases. Ensure that products meet industry standards and design and performance requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the engineering processes, design, and execution. Implement mitigation strategies to minimize delays, cost overruns, or technical failures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Utilize daily management systems, visual management, and disciplined problem-solving to prioritize and address opportunities for improvement within Engineering and across the organization.
  • Mentorship and Development: Provide mentorship and development opportunities for engineers. Encourage skill-building and professional growth through training, knowledge sharing, and coaching.
  • Project Planning and Execution: Mange multiple simultaneous projects. Develop project plans, timelines, and milestones. Track progress and adjust strategies as necessary to meet deadlines, quality standards, and budget constraints.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Ensure seamless communication and collaboration across internal and external stakeholders for all Engineering projects and activities.
  • Customer Interaction: Engage with key customers to understand their needs and specifications. Work with the sales and product teams to ensure the developed equipment aligns with customer needs and requirements.
  • Research and Development: Stay informed about emerging technologies in the industry, including advancements in automation, robotics, sensors, IoT (Internet of Things), and data analytics. Lead or support R&D efforts for next-generation equipment.
  • Ensure the output of the Engineering and NPD Team is accurate, thorough, complete, and timely.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the Engineering and NPD Team and the organization across applicable engineering topics


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field from ABET accredited college or university.
  • 5 years of experience in engineering and product development leadership and management.
  • 5 years' experience in capital equipment or machinery development and support.
  • Proven experience in Stage Gate, project management, innovation, team development, and leadership.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and communication skills.
  • Experience leading teams comprising mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers in successful design and development projects. Additional experience with embedded systems engineers and development is preferred.

  • Product Development: Expertise in design, testing, and engineering life-cycle support of products requiring multi-disciplinary engineering.

  • Decision-making: Excellence in rapid decision-making; quickly make decisions based on available information or, when necessary, gather additional information to make an informed decision.
  • Project Management: Strong skills in managing timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project execution for multiple simultaneous projects. Skilled in risk management, identifying root cause, and implementing corrective action.
  • Innovation & Problem Solving: Creative mindset with a focus on driving innovation and solving complex challenges.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience managing project budgets and analyzing financial data to support decision-making.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to work effectively with internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of engineering principles, product design, and emerging technologies (i.e., strength of materials, materials science, industry standards, manufacturability, testing, engineering analysis, Stage Gate, control systems, etc.). Must have working knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering and design.
  • Customer Focus: Ability to balance customer needs with product innovation and operational goals.


Travel: up to 20% including the possibility of occasional weekend travel.

Working Conditions

This job operates in both an office setting and a manufacturing warehouse. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, hand tools, and material handling equipment.
