About the role:

Reporting to the Air Tanker Program Supervisor, the Air Tanker Base Supervisor/ Aviation Fuel & Safety Specialist manages Yukon Wildland Fire Management's (YWFM) air tanker bases and aviation fueling systems. This position leads the ongoing Air Tanker Base (ATB) and aviation fueling program development and implementation, training program certifications, safety management system development and standards, financial contracts and procurements within the specialized unit. This person is responsible for overall safety, fiscal and operational efficiencies at five permanent air tanker bases, seven bulk aviation fuel sites, and one Mobile Retardant Base (MRB).

Essential Qualifications:
  • A degree or diploma in natural resource management or a related field; a combination of work experience and training may also be considered.
  • Experience managing aviation fueling systems and air tanker base operations, including safety and logistical coordination, or experience working and supervising in a class A hazard, safely and procedural environment.
  • Experience leading and coordinating infrastructure and equipment procurement, maintenance, and upgrade projects.
  • Recent experience supervising staff including managing interpersonal conflict, performing administrative supervisory duties, and ensuring work is carried out safely within OH&S regulations.


Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:
Candidate should have and may be assessed on their:
  • Knowledge of aviation fuel types, standards, and safe handling practices, including Jet A and Avgas 100LL.
  • Understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and national/provincial/territorial air tanker base safety standards.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in managing digital documentation and databases (e.g. inventory, training records, safety systems).
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently

This position requires travel to remote locations by road, rotary wing aircraft, fixed wing aircraft, and off-road vehicles.

This position requires the ability to work on weekends and some evenings as required to meet fire response requirements.
