Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Develops and actualizes a learning environment consistent with school district vision, goals and objectives.
- Student-centered educator committed to developing a differentiated and personalized learning plan for classified students based on strengths and readiness levels.
- Demonstrates an understanding of how to accurately administer educational evaluations and analyze results to inform recommendations and goals.
- Assists in developing Individual Educational Plans ("IEP") for students that are informed by data and observations that are specific to the student.
- Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEP's including academic goals and behavior management plans.
- Ability to develop and actualize modifications and accommodations for students with disabilities in a general education classroom based on student readiness levels.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to engage in various instructional models including co-teaching, parallel teaching and pulling small groups.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunities.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and maintains effective communication with students and parents.
- Exhibits an inclusive philosophy where all students are capable of succeeding regardless of differences and challenges.
- Exudes a joy of learning and an ability to work with students of all skill and ability levels.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops clear, engaging, and relevant lesson plans that appropriately challenge students and demonstrate current educational pedagogy.
- Experience with social and emotional learning and building a positive classroom culture that focuses on the development of the whole child (knowledge of RULER is a plus).
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and inquiry based learning experiences.
- Committed to student-centered and student-driven learning experiences with opportunities for student voice and choice.
Certifications/Experience:
- New York State Certification as a Special Education Teacher (Gr. K - 12 or Gr. 7 -12).
- Successful prior special education teaching experience with students with Autism, Dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
