What is the opportunity?
The RBC GAM Private Markets investment platform is presently comprised of Real Estate equity, Real Estate debt (Mortgage Investments) and Infrastructure equity solutions that are available to a broad array of individual and institutional investors. As a senior leader within the Private Markets group at RBC Global Asset Management (GAM), you will have primary responsibility for the management and oversight of the Mortgage Investments platform (five funds totaling approximately $7 billion in AUM) and contribute to the development of the platform's future growth globally. RBC GAM views its real estate debt / mortgage fund platform as a key private credit component of its scalable, broad, and comprehensive private market investment platform.
The successful candidate will have direct experience in the mortgage investment sector, preferably across a broad credit risk spectrum. Given a central component of the role will be the management of key relationships within both RBC and the real estate industry, the candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work with both internal and external partners. From a client facing perspective, the role will have direct exposure to RBC's client channels across its broad wealth platform (Individual, High/Ultra Net Worth, Institutional, Domestic and Global).

What will you do?
1) Investment Program
- Primary responsibility and oversight of all aspects of the RBC GAM mortgage investment platform, including the management and performance of the five investment strategies
- Support the origination, underwriting and approval of all investment opportunities across the five investment strategies
- Oversee the investment opportunity / loan origination process, including managing origination channels and maintaining strong real estate industry coverage
- Monitor the administration of the portfolio's individual loan performance and renewal program
- Develop a global growth plan for the real estate debt / mortgage investment platform that will include the potential launch of new strategies
2) Investor Client Communication and Distribution
- Work with the broader RBC GAM and Wealth platform to ensure that current and future mortgage strategies are understood and accessible across the appropriate channels and geographies
3) People
- Contribute to the oversight, career development and mentorship of the mortgage investment team
4) Private Markets Group
- Collaborate with the senior members of the Private Markets team to develop and execute a global growth strategy inclusive of new investment solutions
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
- Minimum 15 years of direct mortgage loan origination, underwriting and deal execution experience
- Direct knowledge across a broad spectrum of real estate property types and geographies
- Direct experience underwriting a broad array of credit risk, including conventional, high yield and construction lending
- Experience in developing and managing a high performing team
- CFA or CIM designation or registered as an Advising Representative with the OSC
Nice to Have
- Direct experience investing in the US CMBS market or exposure to the US real estate industry
- Investment experience in other private market investment strategies, such as private credit or real estate equity
- Proven fund raising and investor client facing experience
