BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director, Transportation, organize and direct the operational aspects of the Transportation department; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school including college-level course work in planning, transportation or related field and five years increasingly responsible experience working in transportation operations.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Class A or B California Motor Vehicle Operator's license with passenger transportation endorsement, "S" and air brake endorsements.
Valid California Special Driver Certificate for school buses.
Valid California Department of Motor Vehicles medical certificate.
Valid California Highway Patrol approved First Aid Card (if required on Special Certificate).
Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate, Form MCSA-5876.
Must have a current California Department of Motor Vehicles K-4 printout to be submitted with the job application.

Job Responsibilities
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Organize and direct the operational aspects of the Transportation Department; participate in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures; performs the duties of the director of transportation in the incumbent's absence or as assigned.
Coordinate the development and modification of routes according to variety of meetings and IEP requirements as assigned; oversee the creation and integration of routes, runs and stops; implement route re-bidding process; assure safe driving practices are in compliance with District and State transportation policies, rules and regulations.
Oversee the scheduling of students for transportation; assign students to stops in accordance with District policies and procedures; organize schedules and services for recess periods.
Process and oversee billing functions for trips and services.
Respond to inquiries from District and school staff and parents regarding transportation-related issues.
Conduct accident investigations involving District equipment or personnel; receive and process injury reports as required and in accordance with State and federal laws and codes.
Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions.
Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records and files related to personnel and assigned activities; maintain bus driver records as assigned.
Interpret and assure compliance with policies, procedures, rules and regulations pertaining to student transportation and vehicle maintenance.
Communicate with administrators, personnel and outside organizations to coordinate activities, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information.
Operate a computer and assigned software programs; operate other office equipment as assigned.
Drive a bus as assigned over designated suburban routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up or discharging students, stopping traffic as necessary to escort students safely across streets; transport students to and from school, special events and field trips as required.

VACATION - HOLIDAYS - ILLNESS
Employees accumulate vacation at 1.84 days per month resulting in 22 days for 12 month employees. A total of twelve (12) to fourteen (14) paid holidays per year is granted depending on the work calendar. Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of paid sick leave per year, with unlimited accumulation, prorated for partial months and part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month employees.
RETIREMENT
All employees who are in the classified service and work four (4) hours per day or more are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security. If an employee in the classified service works less than four (4) hours per day they are members of an Alternate Retirement System (PARS) and do not contribute to Social Security. Approximately 7% is deducted from your paycheck for PERS retirement.
HEALTH & WELFARE
The District offers a comprehensive health benefits program for employees who work twenty (20) hours or more per week. This includes medical, vision, dental insurance plans and life insurance for employees. For full-time employees the District pays the employee's health, vision, dental, and life insurance premiums with an employee contribution required for some plans. For part-time employees plans are available on a prorated basis. Dependent coverage is available.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
The District encourages employees to pursue professional growth. Professional growth points shall be earned by employee participation while in non-paid status in activities which are employment related. Professional growth points are awarded annually and accumulate at $20 per approved Professional Growth Point and/or tuition and textbook reimbursement up to $500 is also available - limited to one per year.
