Job Summary/Basic Function
Maryville University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Network and Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role plays a critical part in managing, maintaining, and upgrading the university's wired and wireless networks, as well as its data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a passion for problem-solving, technical expertise, and a commitment to ensuring a secure and reliable IT environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
Manage and maintain the universitys wired, wireless, and firewall network infrastructure.
Maintain and update physical and virtual system infrastructure, including telecommunication systems.
Provide technical support for hardware and software issues, escalating as necessary.
Monitor network and system performance daily, ensuring usability and responding promptly to issues.
Regularly upgrade and enhance systems to maintain optimal functionality.
Research and implement innovative network technologies, managing system upgrade projects.
Participate in the design and enhancement of information and operational support systems.
Provide second- and third-level technical support for troubleshooting.
Collaborate with vendors and other IT personnel to resolve complex issues.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Knowledge
Advanced understanding of network protocols, design, and maintenance.
Hands-on experience with data center infrastructure and telecommunications systems.
Knowledge of best practices in technology infrastructure and trends in higher education.
Experience in implementing innovative technical solutions and complex projects.
Required Skills and Abilities
6+ years of experience in network and systems engineering in complex environments.
Proficiency with Aruba Networks, Palo Alto firewalls, and VMware configuration/design.
Expertise in Microsoft architecture, including Active Directory, Azure, and M365.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences effectively.
Education
Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
