Director, Title VI Coordinator
Office for Access & Equity
The Title VI Coordinator for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will provide expertise, guidance and oversight to campus-wide efforts to ensure compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This will include leading the office that receives and is responsible for all reports of discrimination, harassment, and related retaliation based on race, color, and national origin, including shared ancestry and ethnic characteristics; as well as coordinating efforts reasonably calculated to eliminate any hostile environment, remedy its effects, and prevent its recurrence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Complaint process oversight
  • Ensure that complaints and grievances related to the claimsof discrimination on the basis of on race, color, and national origin,including shared ancestry and ethnic characteristics are appropriately handled.This includes having primary responsibility to develop policy and proceduresfor the Title VI Office and to provide guidance to campus leadership onrelevant campus policy.
  • Ensure the accuracy of institutional data and requiredreporting under state and federal laws related to discrimination and misconduct on the basis or race, color, national origin, shared ancestry, and ethnic characteristics.
  • Supervise and train Title VI Resolution Specialists andother Title VI Office staff.
  • Oversee considerations of free speech/academic freedomconducted by Resolution Specialists in the course of processing reports.
  • Maintain and update the Title VI case management databaseand run reports from the database to answer queries from campus partners andexternal agencies.

Compliance oversight
  • Provide advice, guidance, and oversight regarding compliancewith Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other federal and state lawsand regulations, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.
  • Interpret currentregulations affecting relevant University policies and procedures.
  • Serveas the primary point of contact for external agencies in the area of Title VIcompliance.
  • Develop and maintain MOUs, protocols, and collaborativerelationships with leadership and staff in key university offices (UIPD, OSCAR,EEO, University Housing, Provost, etc.) to ensure that campus responds appropriatelyto relevant allegations of discrimination and harassment.
  • Review published materials including websites to ensure theaccuracy of published information on how to report discrimination orretaliation.
  • Identify if patterns, recidivism, or collective incidentsexist that may warrant additional response campuswide in specific programs oractivities, including when the conduct occurs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and awareness of developmentsin relevant areas of Civil Rights law.

Training and Communication
  • Lead, develop, implement, present, and review annualtraining programs and trainings on request for University faculty, staff,campus units, (UIPD, OSCAR, EEO, University Housing, Provost, etc.) and othergroups related to Title VI law and regulations.
  • Publicize to the campus external training opportunities fromrelevant external organizations.

Other duties as assigned
  • Serve on relevant committees at the campus and system level.
  • Leverage relevant committee and governance structures inorder to facilitate compliance with Title VI.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership and personnel management skills.
  • Ability to make good, consistent and fair decisions.
  • Ability to design, develop, and present effective trainingand educational programs to a variety of audiences on Title VI topics.
  • Ability to plan and implement programs with quantifiableresults.
  • Strong organizational, planning, analytical and problem-solvingskills.
  • Ability to work with colleges and academic units acrosscampus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high volume andtime-sensitive workload and to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively bothverbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in acollaborative and diverse environment.
  • Awareness of the necessity to maintain confidential andneutrality.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after May 19, 2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is$115,000 to $130,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thoroughassessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidateexperience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budgetconstraints. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
