The Principal BD, Payments Acceptance and Strategic Initiatives role will help drive the commercial strategy and long-term vision for Amazon's payment acceptance business (examples may include leading negotiations with global partners, or defining/driving new strategic partnerships). The role will work closely with the teams that manage global payment networks/processors and local partners/authorities, with strong focus on optimizing our long-term cost of payments, payment success rates, and customer acquisition channels.
Key job responsibilities
The Amazon Payment Acceptance & Experience team is responsible for how Amazon's customers pay on Amazon's online and physical stores and through Amazon's services around the globe. We recognize that payment preferences and regulations vary widely from one region to another, and we obsess over not just how customers want to pay today, but also the ways they will want to pay years in the future.
The Principal BD, Payments Acceptance and Strategic Initiatives role will influence the commercial strategy and long-term vision for Amazon's payment acceptance business (examples may include leading negotiations with global partners, or defining/driving new strategic partnerships). You will work with a talented team of stakeholders including product managers, business developers and software engineers to work backwards from the Amazon customer (including future new-to-Amazon customers) to deliver secure and reliable payment capabilities that also align with our goal of continuing to reduce Amazon's cost to serve.
The ideal candidate will have expert-level payments industry expertise and a track record of demonstrating the ability influence, collaborate with and manage the competing priorities of a diverse set of internal functions (Product, Tech, Finance, Legal, Public Policy, Compliance), internal teams (Retail, 3P, Digital Content, Prime, CTPS, AWS) and external stakeholders (partners, regulators) to achieve success in this role. They will need to build and sustain the partnerships that support a long-term (5-10 year) vision for Amazon's payment acceptance function. This role also places a premium on someone with the EQ to build and maintain long term trust-based relationships at the highest levels with Amazon's payments and financial services partners, against the backdrop of challenging commercial discussions and operational rhythms. This Principal should be comfortable working both at the strategic level and diving deep into details as needed to ensure high quality execution at Amazon pace.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- 10+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA
- Experience in senior BD or strategy roles at global payments platforms, large-scale marketplace companies, or top-tier strategy consulting firms, with demonstrated expertise in enterprise payment solutions and technical partnership development.
- Deep understanding of the global payments ecosystem, including knowledge of traditional rails (card networks, bank payments, closed loop), emerging technologies (RTP, FedNow, digital currencies), alternative payment methods, and regulatory frameworks across key markets; demonstrated ability to translate this expertise into strategic technical solutions that drive enterprise value
- Exceptional written communication skills, with a proven ability to influence executive decisions through compelling data-driven narratives, and a track record of translating complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations that drive business outcomes.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $158,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $262,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
