Our team is an interdisciplinary group of scientists working at the intersection of Recommender Systems, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning (ML), and Spoken Language Understanding (SLU). Through close collaboration with engineering and product teams, we develop and deploy innovative algorithms that enhance content discovery and customer engagement on Fire TV. Our work directly contributes to making our devices delightful to use and indispensable for the household.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and grow a group of scientists, establishing and executing the research vision while recruiting and developing team members
- Combine technical leadership with hands-on contributions, participating directly in research and development while guiding the broader team
- Drive end-to-end impact by designing scalable solutions that systematically address technical challenges and deliver lasting customer benefit
- Balance and prioritize multiple workstreams spanning long-term research, applied projects, and production support to ensure high-impact outcomes
- Drive adoption of state-of-the-art approaches across the organization by staying at the forefront of relevant technological advances
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience
- Knowledge of ML, NLP, Information Retrieval and Analytics
- PhD
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application
- Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning and computer vision, that have been successfully delivered to customers
- \tFluent in ML fundamentals (including Deep Learning, NLP, LLMs, A/B experiments)
- \tA strong track record of project delivery for large, cross-functional, projects
- \tTrack record of recruiting and developing top science talent
- \tExcellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
