TheMaintenance Managerwill lead the site wide maintenance and engineering strategy for our packaging plant inWhitby.The incumbent will manage and mentor the maintenance team to drive excellence and reliability as well as maintain compliance with all regulatory bodies and other relevant legislations. This role interacts with and builds collaboration with the entire operations team (including production, quality & warehouse) to drive site performance by establishing and executing strategic long-term planning and reliability.

When your actions lead to success:

  • Responsible for the safe operation of the maintenance area, managing costs to budget, ensure quality production and maximum efficiencies
  • Ensures and enforces all company and safety policies in conjunction with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other applicable legislation
  • Develop, align and execute maintenance strategy for the site including capital projects
  • Train, coach and mentor employees and front-line leaders to drive excellence in maintenance operations
  • Serve as strategic partner to implement and sustain site operating model to ensure that standard maintenance practices and procedures are appropriate in practice
  • Develop and sustain compliance with maintenance and engineering KPIs, manage budget, ensure compliance and plan major shutdowns
  • Develop troubleshooting and technical capabilities across the board for process, packaging, utilities and building maintenance
  • Responsible for maintaining infrastructure for production and warehousing such as process, packaging, utilities, building, wastewater, water treatment and material handling equipment
  • Identifies manufacturing process requirements, improvement opportunities and best practices for site, ensuring alignment with site operating model and corporate guidelines and drive those projects/activities
  • Efficiently utilize resources, external contractors and manpower to drive efficiency in the business
  • Lead focused improvement projects for maintenance function to drive cultural change
  • Develop effective collaboration with site management, outside network, cross functional teams and project/process owners to implement new processes or guidelines
  • Utilize data to analyze equipment failure modes, and suggest/implement improvement processes to reduce or eliminate equipment/process failures
  • Closely work with Safety, Quality, Production & Warehouse department to drive site performance
  • Perform other duties as necessary and/or assigned


When your expertise drives us:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical or a certified trade with a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent, may be considered
  • At least 10 years of maintenance leadership experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Experience in commissioning and startup of equipment
  • Experience in the Food Manufacturing/Packaging industry highly desired
  • Demonstrate ability to develop corporate/business relationship along with keen business acumen and a solid understanding of the maintenance environment and costs analysis
  • Be flexible to work off-shift hours to support company requirements to cover the site
