Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide supervision of fire personnel; enforce policies, rules, regulations and procedures of the Fire Department. This position reports to the Assistant Chief of Operations.
Essential Job Functions
Essential functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Education and Experience
Must possess 2 years of experience as a Driver with the City of Farmers Branch Fire Department and, at minimum, an associate degree from an accredited college or university.
Or, has 4 years of experience as a Field Training Officer and has a minimum of an Associates of Arts or Science degree from an accredited college.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of modern fire and life safety, fire suppression and emergency medical service activities.
Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and general public; ability to prepare, present, and evaluate trainings and seminars; ability to analyze problems and offer effective solutions; ability to supervise and motivate personnel; ability to prepare and maintain reports; skill in the use of automated office equipment.
Knowledge of principles and practices of budget preparation and administration; knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
Special Requirements:
This position is subject to call back to duty.
This position must be able to meet the Fire Department's Fit for Duty Standard, including the NFPA 1582 medical standard requirements.
This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.
Incumbent cannot be on a performance improvement plan (PIP) on the date of the interview.
Licenses and Certificates:
Valid Class "B" commercial driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed, required.
Must possess the following certifications:
Work Environment:
Exposure to dust, flames and smoke in the suppression of fires; physical demands require considerable physical effort with heavy lifting (over 100 lbs.), carrying, pushing, reaching crawling. The position requires heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back or sensory facilities.

Position Summary

Essential Job Functions
Essential functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Enforces policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of the Fire Department.
- Reprimands, prefer written charges, and/or temporarily suspend any member of the Fire Department under the rank of Captain.
- Manages Paramedic certifications including temporarily suspending any Paramedic from providing EMS for due cause.
- Responsible for staying informed and up to date regarding new methods and equipment in the field of EMS.
- Attends schools and seminars to keep abreast of the latest information and equipment available for Paramedic service.
- Acts as the Department's representative to medical control; acts as the Medical Director's EMS QA point of contact.
- Proposes and recommends changes in the Paramedic program.
- Conducts good business practices in the use of Fire Department personnel, utilities, supplies, and equipment.
- Acquires and retains all fire and EMS certifications, licenses, and other credentials as required by the Fire Chief.
- Keeps supervisors advised of progress, issues, and happenings that might affect the efficiency, morale, or image of the Fire Department.
- Keeps the Fire Chief advised of the latest State Legislation pertaining to EMS.
- Provides design specifications for the purchase of new medic units.
- Manages Electronic Patient Care Reporting system.
- Manages Controlled Substances Inventory Levels.
- Promotes good public relations.
- Ensures that firefighters and officers are trained in EMS and Health and Safety.
- Assists the Division Chief of Administration and Training with monitoring and managing the HIPAA program for the department.
- Develops and manages the budget for the EMS division.
- Acts as the Power of Attorney for DEA controlled substances, and as the Administrator of Record for TDSHS.
- Acts as the Fire Department's Liaison for the NCTTRAC.
- Orders and maintains EMS supplies for the department's paramedic program.
- Maintains a complete uniform that is clean and in good appearance; maintains all assigned PPE.
- Responds to fire and EMS emergencies, when needed.
- Instructs in-service EMS training programs; attends special schools when assigned.
- Manages the Infection Control Program.
- Maintains Designated Infection Control Officer certification.
- Manages the EMS personnel field training officer program.
- Enforces HIPAA regulations and coordinates the release of medical information when within appropriate guidelines.
- Manages CARES data entry.
- Manages the Medvault and Knox box software program.
- Answers special calls during off-duty hours, as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
