Job Summary
The Core Design & Analysis Engineer is responsible for implementing core reload change packages, monitoring core operation, maintaining fuel-related safety analyses, and supporting the maintenance of radiation dose calculations for the nuclear units. Responsibilities span the design of the new fuel assemblies and their integration into reloaded fuel assemblies such that the energy requirements, power distribution requirements, safety analysis requirements, radiation dose limits, and margins are all met for an operating cycle.
Job Responsibilities
The Core Design & Analysis Engineer is responsible for:
1) preparing or reviewing calculations related to core nuclear design, core thermal hydraulic performance, and reload safety analyses
2) monitoring core operation to ensure that the reactor core is operating as designed
3) preparing or reviewing nuclear fuel-related design change packages
4) implementing updates/upgrades to methodologies used in core design & fuel-related safety analyses
5) supporting Reactor Engineering by reviewing maneuver-specific reactivity management plans and maintaining the core monitoring systems
6) supporting Design Engineering in the maintenance of the radiation dose calculations and the Integrated Decay Heat Management Program
7) performing fuelrelated training of Operators and Reactor Engineers
8) providing multi-cycle analyses to support financial planning
9) providing Nuclear Fuels inputs to license amendment requests
10) performing 10 CFR 50.59 Reviews and Evaluations
11) maintaining an awareness of industry technical issues that affect core operation or could be implemented to improve performance
12) dispositioning industry issues applicable to nuclear fuel
13) maintaining Nuclear Fuels Policies, Programs, Processes, Procedures, and Training and Reference Material.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required:
BS Degree in Nuclear Engineering
Minimum of 7 years related work experience
Masters Degree in Nuclear Engineering can count as 1 year of related work experience
Excellent written & oral communication skills
Ability to support shift work during plant outages and emergent situations
Ability to meet nuclear requirements for Unescorted Site Access and access industrial areas of a nuclear power
Desired:
Reactor Engineering qualifications and/or experience
Engineering Training instructor qualifications and/or experience
MS Degree in Nuclear Engineering
