Description

Position Overview:

The Advancement Officer is responsible for assisting with the implementation of an annual giving program, managing a portfolio of leadership gift donors and assisting with major gift donor relations at the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH).

This position will primarily focus on implementing direct marketing campaigns, working closely with the Advancement team and senior leadership to secure unrestricted philanthropic support that advances FNIH's biomedical research, patient care, and education priorities. The Advancement Officer will have a demonstrated history of executing successful direct mail, email and social media campaigns for diverse constituencies which include alumni, grateful patients, staff and friends.

Additionally, this position will carry a small, fluid portfolio of leadership gift prospects/donors that they will qualify and cultivate for movement through the leadership gift pipeline ($1K - $25K annual). Finally, this position will support the Vice President, Advancement with the creation of donor proposals and the execution of signed gift agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

Annual Giving and Donor Management (75%)
  • Develops and, in collaboration with others, administers all aspects of the premier direct marketing campaigns involving direct mail, email, social media and crowdfunding.
  • Collaborate with FNIH Advancement leadership, senior staff, and program directors to strategize and execute solicitations.
  • Stay informed of key scientific programs and institutional priorities to effectively represent FNIH to external audiences.
  • Track, analyze and develop outcomes for annual giving programs.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

Donor Relations and Portfolio Management (25%)
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a small portfolio of prospects and donors capable of giving $1K+.
  • Utilize prospect research tools and apply disciplined rating and qualification practices to continually help refine the leadership gift pipeline.
  • Achieve annual revenue goals based on portfolio performance metrics. Ensure timely documentation of contacts, strategies, and actions in FNIH's donor database (CRM).
  • Assist Advancement Leadership with the development of high-capacity prospect strategy and portfolio development plans, gift proposals, gift agreements and donor impact reports for select major gift prospects.
  • Coordinate with colleagues across departments to gather program information and identify funding opportunities aligned with donor interests.
  • Collaborate with program and communications teams to deliver impact reports, updates, and other recognition materials.


Position Requirements

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required with a focus in marketing, communications, business, nonprofit management, or related field desirable.
  • 6-8 years' experience in annual giving fundraising preferred.
  • Expertise in identifying potential leadership gift level prospects through data analysis and proactive virtual outreach.
  • Proficiency in Raiser's Edge or other fundraising software and CRM systems.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and ethical standards in handling confidential donor information.

Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to distill highly technical information into simplified, compelling requests for support.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities, with high level of attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of annual giving prospects and donors.
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze data and make recommendations related to donor giving.
  • Resourceful and creative in overcoming obstacles and identifying new opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Results oriented with a positive attitude and a passion for playing a role in fulfilling the organization's mission.

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $110,000 annually.

This is a hybrid position and may require occasional evening and weekend work to support events and donor engagement activities as they may occur.
