Job Summary
The Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to patients living with CF. Previously considered a childhood disease, recent medical advancements have allowed many more patients to live into adulthood and with a better quality of life. MGH's CF program has earned national accreditation by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the world's leader in the search for a cure for CF.
Qualifications
The staff nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate, individualized, nursing care for specific patients and their families in the ambulatory care setting. The person collaborates with practice leadership, members of the patient care team, and the patient to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
The goal of this position is to ensure the appropriate coordination of care is established and requests are processed as needed and as directed by the pulmonary clinical staff and to ensure exemplary customer service for patients and their families.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Staff Nurse for Cystic Fibrosis Program works to coordinate and facilitate all aspects of the care of patients with cystic fibrosis. Job activities include: outside medical record review, communication with referring health care providers, authorization and scheduling, patient and nursing education in complex medical therapies, and ongoing care of outpatients with cystic fibrosis.

Job activities include: outside medical record review, communication with referring health care providers, authorization and scheduling, patient and nursing education in complex medical therapies, and ongoing care of outpatients with cystic fibrosis.
Duties:
- Screen all incoming referrals.
- Triage patients and phone calls.
- Coordinate the follow up of test results with provider guidance.
- Triage urgent appointment requests
- Handle prescription refills, injections, point of care testing.
- Process medication refills including prior approvals.
- Observes, reports, and documents relevant patient information in electronic medical records
- Communicates the plan of care and other pertinent information to / from other patient care team members.
- Provide patient and family teaching
- Participates in and contributes to performance improvement activities.
- Interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures to nurses and other health team members.
- Provides input to the practice leadership regarding practice needs.
- Participates in practice and other committees for formulation of nursing, practice and hospital policies and procedures.
- Provides competent, compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of nursing process.
- Provides and maintains a therapeutic environment for patients and families
- Collaborates with practice leadership to identify his / her developmental level of practice and appropriate learning experiences to enhance development.
- Contributes to relevant committees, professional meetings, continuing educational and / or formal academic programs.
- Responsible for locating and liaison with community resources for patients and their families.
- Participate in occasional cross coverage for General Pulmonary triage
- 1-2 times per/year to travel to conferences
- Coordinate patient education.
- Be available to inpatient units for any requested education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- R.N., licensed in Massachusetts, with a minimum of five years of clinical experience
- Bachelor's degree required
