As a Materials and Processes Engineer, you will:
Lead small-group project teams to propose, select, qualify, and test metals and composites for hyper-sonic projectiles and atmospheric re-entry vehicle applications
Perform Materials and Processes (M&P) technical engineering assignments
Troubleshoot problems and find innovative solutions
Prepare technical and progress reports on assigned tasks, prepare specifications, evaluate suppliers and analyze test reports
Engage regularly with internal engineering teams and external suppliers to meet program objectives
Coordinate with other disciplines such as Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement

Typically looking for 2 to 4 years of professional experience

Someone with the ability to handle shifting priorities, multiple projects and timeline pressure to meet deadlines
Someone comfortable with communicating in a variety of forums
Someone willing to mentor and guide junior engineers
The ability to work with management and program representatives at several levels
Technical leadership of small teams or projects
Proven ability to communicate key project information or recommendations to Program management and /or Customers

Basic Qualifications
Materials or process related background and/or field of study
Experience with either metals, composites, polymers, ceramics, adhesive bonding, films, and/or coatings
Understanding of material properties definitions and industry specifications (MIL-STD, ASTM, IPC, etc.)
Experience reviewing engineering drawings and/or specifications or reports, and providing guidance to engineers or stakeholders
Knowledge of a variety of materials characterization and failure analysis techniques including but not limited to, corrosion analysis, ASTM mechanical testing, metallography, SEM, EDS, optical microscopy, etc.
To meet requirements of the program/customer, this position requires the selected employee to be a U.S. Citizen.
Selected candidates will be required to obtain (and maintain), a minimum level of TS clearance, for long-term employment on this program.

Desired skills
Effective writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Materials and Processes for aerospace product development, improvement, design, application, and production including soldering, PCBs, additive manufacturing, bonding, polymers, coatings and metals.
Experience establishing and implementing technical requirements (specifications, program plans/requirements, etc.)
Knowledge of environmental and operational requirements for materials in space or missile applications (oxidation, thermal stress, radiation, etc)
Knowledge of laboratory material evaluation methods (mechanical, optical, surface chemistry, etc.)
Experience with root cause failure investigations and working with MRB teams
Project management experience. Leading project teams while also independently resolving issues related to manufacturing, development, and failure analysis.
Development and characterization of new materials for aerospace applications
Experience participating in major program milestone reviews such as PDR and CDR

Ability to work remotely

Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $70,100 - $123,625. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.

Premium Pay Statement

For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
