PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
To support all mechanical engineering aspects of the product development projects including concept, design, qualification, and launch. To generate concept sketches on paper as well as detailed part designs using CAD. To perform structural analysis using engineering theory as well as computational tools such as FEA. Carry out product testing to validate performance and reliability. Participate in pre-production builds for new products and support development of the manufacturing process.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Designs, develops, and evaluates products using sound engineering principles, such as engineering calculations, principles of material behavior and design analysis tools and techniques
- Generates innovative product concepts using current and new technologies
- Creates specifications, tests plans, coordinates testing and analyzes results to develop product designs
- Provides technical support to other departments regarding all aspects of product design and product performance.
- Uses design for manufacture principles when designing parts and assemblies
- Owns, maintains, and leads design review process and documentation (i.e. PDR, CDR, DFMEA and DRBFM) for mechanical systems supported
- Provides support to the IPT (Integrated Project Team) such as acting as the mechanical SME (Subject Matter Expert) and providing project costs (Tooling, NRE, and BOM cost estimates).
- Performs design trade-off analysis as required
- Works closely with the Project Engineer to ensure adequate resource budget/forecast
- Performs detailed studies and design of mechanical systems according to the Product Specification, with emphasis on safety, reliability, and cost
- Leads the development of drawings and BOM structure for mechanical systems
- Participates in component placement and design reviews for products and is responsible for ensuring the designs meet system requirements
- Interacts and supports with purchasing, testing, manufacturing, and external suppliers as needed for the successful completion of projects
- Attends weekly design & team project meetings, and action register meetings during the validation phase.
- Owns defining mechanical system test requirements during manufacturing as well as any special process requirements
- Troubleshoots systems when issues arise during validation or in the field, recommends and implements solutions
- Keeps supervisor informed of important developments, potential problems and related information necessary for effective management. Coordinates and communicates plans and activities with others as appropriate to ensure a coordinated effort and team approach.
- Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.
What you will bring to the table:
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering discipline, Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- At least five years of experience in product development and/or part design
- Knowledge of mechanical product design and assembly
- Ability to work independently and with others as a team
- Strong attention to detail
- Mechanically curious to understand product function
- Experience with root cause determination fundamentals.
- Experience with problem solving processes and tools such as A3/8D and 5 Whys
- DFMEA, DFM, and DTC experience.
- Strong documentation skills
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
- Data-driven with a balance between data and intuition.
- Embraces test and learn approach to make informed business decisions
- Collaborative and able to build partnerships and ensures shared success
