JOB SUMMARY
Directs operations of the Patient Accounting department to maximize financial returns, working with relevant hospital departments to improve operations, maximizing efficiency through technology, and assuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
Directs billing and collection operations for MWPH accounts, using effective and efficient practices, policies and procedures to maximize reimbursement
Directs the processing of cash receipts to ensure receipts are accurate and in balance
Uses technology and EMR functionality at the highest levels to maximize productivity
Uses technology and EMR functionality at the highest levels to analyze and communicate trends in reimbursement
Reviews and authorizes all bad debt and uncompensated care write-offs.
Maintains and improves relationships with payers, state agencies, peers at other institutions, and internal customers including clinical and administrative departments
Communicates effectively and with excellent customer service with all patients and families regarding financial matters
Motivates staff for maximum productivity and employee satisfaction
With limited supervision, demonstrates excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Provides for and encourages staff training and development
Serves as model for positive interaction and cooperation with co-workers at all level; Uses CARES program to reward customer service excellence
Self-motivated; achieves goals with limited direction and supervision
Participates in continuing education and shares knowledge with other departments
Leads meetings in effective and efficient manner
Analyzes billing issues using data and reports; shares reports with management
Communicates with other hospital departments to improve front-end processes that effect reimbursement
Sets and achieves financial collection goals
Trains staff; cross-trains to assure that unexpected absences do not affect operations
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree required
Licensure, Certification and Registration
Work Orientation and Experience
Five years experience preferred
Supervisory experience required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and E-Mail
o Demonstrated knowledge of technology and systems used within Patient Accounting; ability to maximize use of technology, reporting and system functions to increase productivity and efficiency
o Highly proficient knowledge of health care management, administrative and operational principles and practices, including technology, the Joint Commission, regulations and laws pertaining to delivery of patient care

Maintains thorough knowledge of current audit practices, such as Medicaid payment audits
Maintains knowledge of HSCRC regulations and how they apply to MWPH
Develops knowledge of health care reforms and how they apply to MWPH

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS
General office setting little or no risk or exposure to bodily fluids, infectious waste, or blood borne diseases will be instructed in the proper use of personal protective equipment and specific protocols if assigned to duties where this may be of risk. Occasional local travel may be required.
