Job Description
VIS Tooling Controls Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, and validating control systems and software for Final Assembly tooling from our Tier 1 tooling vendors.
This role focuses on CLX PLC automation, robotics, factory information systems, software integration and pneumatics systems to improve tooling quality, timing, and safety for our internal plant operation customers.

VIS Tooling Controls Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, and validating control systems and software for Final Assembly tooling from our Tier 1 tooling vendors.
This role focuses on CLX PLC automation, robotics, factory information systems, software integration and pneumatics systems to improve tooling quality, timing, and safety for our internal plant operation customers.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Validate and guide controls standards for software and hardware designs with our tooling partners.
- Manage tooling vendors implementation of PLC, HMI, and motion with CLX based systems.
- Review controls designs for conformance and tracking to design milestones.
- Assist tooling vendors with debugging control logic and ladder logic programs
- Help develop tooling vendors to world class with design/engineering, build and project management for tooling systems.
- Develop new standards which are not clearly defined or established for controls.
- Integrate robotic systems (Fanuc-DCS or Kawasaki-Core Cubic S) for Final assembly manufacturing cells.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Mechanical Engineering, Safety and Internal Plant Customers.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, plant specifications, and safety protocols
- Assist in root cause analysis (8D) and corrective actions for system failures or inefficiencies
- Support preventive maintenance plans and enforce project documentation deliverables.
- Stay current with technology trends and innovations in industrial automation and controls to improve standards.
- Co-located at our tooling suppliers within Metro Detroit 3-5 days a week.
- Ability to support domestic and international tooling buyoffs.
- Ability to support domestic equipment installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting on the plant floor.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent work experience in manufacturing engineering environment (12+ years)
- 5+ years' experience in Tooling and Controls
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Automotive OEM standards in Final or Body tooling systems
- Experience with tooling related to Glass Urethane/Decking, Fluid Fill, Tire & Wheel Assembly, or Body Decking systems.
- Autodesk AutoCAD
- Microsoft Project
- Teamcenter
