Director, Medical Affairs & Scientific Communication

The Director of Medical Affairs & Scientific Communication leads the strategic development and execution of medical affairs and communication plans; ensuring accurate, timely, and effective delivery of scientific and clinical information to various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, internal teams, and the public. This role involves managing internal and external communication, developing strategies for medical education, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

This position involves a variety of responsibilities, including developing and overseeing scientific communication plans, managing medical information requests, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support field Sales Reps, ensuing their success.

The Director, Medical Affairs & Scientific Communication, will also be responsible for coaching, managing, and mentoring the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) and further Medical Affairs staff, as needed.

Responsibilities:

Medical Affairs
Strategic publication planning, and development of conference abstracts, posters, presentations, and manuscripts of Galt's clinical programs.
Interpretation and presentation of scientific and medical information.
Strategic communications with new and existing KOLs to ensure timely and appropriate exchanges of scientific data.
Development of Advisory Board agendas, slide presentations, and summary reports to inform decision-making on clinical programs.
Design and development of conference exhibits, satellite symposia, and other activities or materials, as needed.
Quality and compliance review of externally facing communications: ensuring inter-departmental documents are of the highest quality in terms of scientific accuracy, grammar and flow, and that key messages are consistent across documents with adherence to company standards.
Development of scientific, medical, and disease-state materials (e.g. scientific message development, frequently asked questions, and slide decks) to support cross-functional efforts.
Support of patient-finding activities for clinical studies and commercial launch through collaboration with Field Medical Affairs, Commercial Planning, Patient Advocacy, Clinical Development/Operations and others as necessary.
Subject-specific literature reviews to assist the organization stay abreast of the scientific landscape and developments, as well as to support evidence generation needs for the development program and commercialization.
Design, collection, analysis, and dissemination of patient-reported outcomes and burden of illness studies.
Oversee Medical Affairs Projects ensuring milestones and targets are met by the Medical Science Liaison and other Medical Affairs staff.
Adherence to Galt's Publication Policy; Galt's Authorship Guidelines; Good Publication Practice (GPP) guidelines; the International Committee for Medical Journal Editors Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals; and any other relevant conference, journal, legal or regulatory guidelines, as appropriate.
Management of consultants and vendors, ensuring production of quality deliverables, on time, and within budget.

Business Units Support
Supports the Chief Franchise Officer (GPS), Director of Sales (Field Sales) and Sr. Manager Galt Direct Markets (Galt Direct), executing Medical and Scientific sales strategies to ensure franchisees and Galt Sales Reps have the scientific knowledge, tools and resources necessary for sales success.
May be responsible for providing additional coaching and resources for further Business Units, as required.

Training & Development
Collaborates with the Training Team, providing relevant scientific Training content.
Provides feedback, updates, and suggestions to update the Galt Playbook, Training presentations and discussions.
Critically evaluates and identifies educational gaps in Galt's Training Program.
Collaborates with the Director of Sales on ongoing training efforts of Field Sales Reps.
Development and delivery of scientific training to new and existing team members.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:
Advanced degree in science; MD, PhD, or PharmD with a minimum of 7+ years of experience as a medical writer preparing scientific publications, medical communications and other written content within Medical/Scientific Affairs or Clinical Development within the pharma or biotech industry.
Direct experience managing consultants, agencies, or other vendors.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with close attention to detail; ability to translate complex scientific concepts into simple language tailored for different audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills and outstanding collaborative skills; proven track record and success in building relationships and having scientific discourse with medical and scientific experts.
Flexible, adaptable, self-motivated, able to prioritize, and able to manage/progress a large volume of work with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated problem solving abilities and strong organizational skills; comfortable. picking up new skills, and excels in a flexible, dynamically changing, fast-paced and challenging environment.
Strategic thinker, with strong attention to detail and successful history of producing results
Success working both individually as well as a member of a team.
Experience working with cross-functional internal teams, as well as patients, researchers, clinicians and other stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience successfully editing documents to the highest quality.
Proven understanding of medical terminology and statistical methods.
High level of proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe presentation.
Must be able to travel as needed.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:
Experience developing medical affairs strategy and content to support launch.
Experience in a startup environment and as a medical editor.
Direct management experience.
Familiarity with presentation software.
Comfort with graphic design and video editing tools.
