The campuses located in New Brunswick are known as College Avenue, Cook, and Douglass and the campuses are known as Busch and Livingston in Piscataway.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- This position is responsible for the delivery of all mechanical maintenance, projects, and operational services for campuses located in New Brunswick and Piscataway, NJ. The facility types under this authority primarily includes academic, clinical, research, vivarium, and administrative buildings for undergraduate and graduate students. The physical plant and sophisticated infrastructure supports approximately 543 buildings.
- Provides leadership and broad direction for mechanical maintenance operations and services for all campuses located in New Brunswick and Piscataway, with representation from at least five collective bargaining units. The functional areas represent the services and operations for mechanical maintenance for university properties found on five distinct campuses: College Avenue, Cook, Douglass, Busch, and Livingston, all located in New Brunswick and Piscataway.
- Responsible for implementing approved policies, procedures, programs, and standards for the delivery of all related operational services, which collectively fall into the unit goals and objectives.
- Works closely with Associate Directors and Area Managers for Mechanical Maintenance to ensure that policies, procedures, programs, and standards are implemented consistently across respective campuses.
- Collaborates with other campus leadership regarding mechanical maintenance matters, the Facilities Condition Analysis Group regarding equipment asset collection, and Project Administration regarding capital and renovation projects and activities.
- Provides resources for the successful delivery of services, ensuring quality and consistency across the five New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses.
- Assesses the effectiveness of policies, procedures, programs, and standards and provides reports and recommendations as required to the Associate Vice President of Facilities Operations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The Senior Director Grade 9 position requires the ability to move around various campus locations, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs. The role involves using hands and fingers for handling tools and controls, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities such as close, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment are necessary, along with the ability to understand verbal instructions in noisy environments. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, with noise levels ranging from moderate to loud. The position involves exposure to mechanical parts, electrical hazards, and other safety risks, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed. Additionally, time is spent in an office setting for administrative tasks, meetings, and planning.
