Description:
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the execution and continuous improvement of EmployIndy's HR programs, policies, and processes. This position provides day-to-day leadership of the HR function, ensuring compliance with employment laws, consistency in policy application, and a positive, inclusive workplace culture. The Director manages the HR Manager and serves as the primary liaison to the Executive Vice President for the implementation of strategic HR priorities. This role includes oversight of vendor relationships and outsourced HR services, with a focus on ensuring operational excellence and staff support.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- HR Operations Oversight - Lead the day-to-day administration of human resources programs including benefits, payroll, HRIS, performance management, onboarding/offboarding, and compliance. Ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with organizational policies and goals. (30% of time)
- Staff Supervision & Development - Supervise the HR Manager, providing coaching and guidance to support high-quality service delivery. Oversee professional development within the HR function and ensure effective team collaboration and responsiveness. (20% of time)
- Talent Management & Employee Experience - Implement talent management initiatives including performance evaluations, employee engagement efforts, and professional development programming. Support a workplace culture rooted in inclusion, collaboration, and continuous feedback. (20% of time)
- Vendor & Partner Management - Manage relationships with outsourced HR service providers (e.g., benefits, payroll, EAP), ensuring contractual obligations are met and services align with organizational needs and values. Monitor service levels and collaborate with vendors to optimize delivery. (15% of time)
- Policy Development & Compliance - Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook to reflect best practices and legal compliance. Monitor changing employment regulations and advise leadership on necessary adjustments. (15% of time)
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field required. HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2-3 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity. Experience managing vendor relationships and supporting DEIB initiatives required. Experience in nonprofit or public sector settings strongly preferred.
- Certifications/Licenses: SHRM or HRCI certification preferred but not required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with HRIS platforms (e.g., Paylocity), benefits and payroll systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with employment law and HR compliance.
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to coach others, manage confidential matters with discretion, and collaborate across departments.
