The Position
The Industrial Arts CTE Teacher will develop, implement, and manage an engaging instructional program for middle school students focused on foundational skills in industrial technology, including woodshop, basic engineering, safety practices, and design thinking. This teacher will integrate academic knowledge and technical skills to prepare students for future CTE pathways while fostering creativity, collaboration, and career exploration.

The Candidate
Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Washington State CTE Certification (or eligibility to obtain) with an endorsement in Industrial Technology or closely related area.
  • Previous experience working with middle or high school students preferred.
  • Relevant industry experience is a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate CTE endorsement.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License (if applicable).

Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of current CTE frameworks, standards, and instructional best practices.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand and power tools, measuring devices, and industrial materials.
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement strategies.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to student safety, equitable access, and career readiness.

The Details
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
  • Instruct students in industrial arts subjects such as basic woodworking, tool safety, design, applied technology, and introductory engineering principles.
  • Develop and deliver standards-aligned lesson plans that integrate hands-on learning and meet Washington State CTE requirements.
  • Establish clear objectives and expectations for student learning, behavior, and safety.
  • Demonstrate and model safe use of hand tools, power tools, and materials; enforce safety protocols at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom and lab environment in compliance with local and state safety codes.
  • Incorporate project-based learning, career exploration, and cross-disciplinary connections (e.g., STEM, math, and art).
  • Develop and implement assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction as needed to support diverse learners.
  • Maintain records of student attendance, progress, and behavior as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align instruction and support school-wide goals and initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and support staff regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Order, organize, and inventory supplies and equipment; submit maintenance requests as needed.
  • Participate in IEP and 504 meetings as appropriate; modify instruction and assessment to meet student needs.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and required training.

School Employee Benefits Board (SEBB)
School District employees benefits are managed through the School Employee Benefits Board (SEBB). Any employee anticipated to work at least 630 hours in the school year is eligible for benefits, Dental, Vision, Basic Life/AD&D, Basic Long Term Disability are paid for by the District. Supplemental life insurance and long term disability can be purchased by the employee and also set up a Health Flexible Spending (FSA) accounts. Dependent Care Assistant Program (DCAP) account and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) if they qualify.

NEW EMPLOYEES will be evaluated for eligibility at the time of hire and given written notification and instructions on how to enroll if eligible or how to appeal if not eligible. All eligible employees must enroll in benefits using SEBB My Account within their thirty day enrollment period. The employee may waive medical coverage under certain circumstances. If an eligible employee does not enroll in benefits during their enrollment period they will be defaulted into medical coverage. Employees not initially eligible for SEBB Benefits may qualify later if your hours change or you work more than 630 hours in a school year.
