Location: This position requires the incumbent to be in the office four (4) out of five days a week. Our office is located at the Taylorsville State Office Building: 4315 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, UT 84129.

Join the Team that Keeps Government Running Smoothly - We're Hiring a Public Affairs Manager! Are you a communications pro who loves connecting people to purpose? Do you thrive on simplifying the complex, building strong messaging, and making sure everyone-from internal teams to the media-knows what's going on and why it matters? If so, the Utah Department of Government Operations (GovOps) wants you on our team! We're looking for a dynamic, creative, and strategic Public Affairs Manager to lead and elevate our communications efforts across all corners of GovOps. In this role, you'll help tell the story of the work we do to support Utah's government-and by extension, every Utahn.

Principle Duties
As the Public Affairs Manager, you'll be at the heart of our Executive Director's office, making sure the right messages reach the right people, at the right time. Your day-to-day will include:
  • Crafting and executing a unified communications strategy that reaches internal teams, external partners, the Utah Legislature, stakeholders, media, and the public.
  • Being the go-to person for all things communications-from presentations and email updates to media interviews, reports, and internal messaging.
  • Collaborating with division leaders to ensure everyone is speaking the same language and working toward shared goals.
  • Overseeing social media strategy and content to keep our channels active, informative, and aligned with department values.
  • Managing and maintaining the department's public website and internal employee intranet.
  • Making sure everything we publish-digitally or in print-looks sharp, reads clearly, and aligns with our brand.

You're a perfect fit if you:
  • Communicate clearly, confidently, and compassionately-both in writing and when speaking.
  • Have a sharp eye for detail and the organizational chops to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Understand how government works and how to navigate its political landscape.
  • Bring experience in communications roles like media relations, public speaking, stakeholder presentations, or serving as a PIO.
  • Know your way around PowerPoint and can make a presentation that truly connects.
  • Have a working knowledge of tools like InDesign (bonus points for video editing skills!).
  • Have working knowledge of the internet/intranet and the ability to manage content.
