The Senior Financial Reporting Specialist is responsible for the preparation, analysis, and review of various statutory financial reporting, including, but not limited to, coordination of technical insurance accounting issues, financial reporting, and various statutory filings.

- Hiring range (San Francisco Bay Area): $108,208 to $144,277

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists with the accounting and reporting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Provides oversight and coordination of operating reports and statutory filings, keeping current with changes to Statutory Accounting principles and filing requirements. Establishes and maintains financial controls; works as a team lead on assigned projects.
- Prepares monthly internal financial statements, reports, and analyses; Maintains monthly general ledger account analyses and review and assists with closing the monthly books.
- Prepares information for and works with external auditors and actuaries, as assigned.
- Assists with income tax and other compliance related matters.
- Strictly maintains confidentiality.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Licenses/Certification:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience, with a minimum of three (3) years of insurance accounting experience required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Knowledge and experience with Statutory Accounting Principles, including claims, premiums, reinsurance, and investment concepts. Working knowledge of insurance taxation and consolidation is preferred.
- Computer proficiency using various software packages; expertise in Excel and Word (including Pivots, Conditional Formatting, VLookups, and other Excel functions); a working knowledge of investment, general ledger, and statutory reporting software; experience with Clearwater investment accounting online software and/or F9 report writing software are preferred.
- Understanding of the underwriting, claims, risk management and IT services provided to members/insureds sufficient to be able to speak credibly to policyholders in formal and informal settings.
- Significant experience working with external auditors, internal controls, and compliance-related issues.
- Excellent analytical, reasoning, time management and problem-solving skills related to data analysis.
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently -exercising good judgment, working under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision, and maintaining a positive and upbeat approach.
