Job Description

The Director of Craft Development is a strategic leadership role responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all aspects of craft program development as well as leading the craft development team. This includes developing new craft programs that align with our strategic plans and meet the expectations of our customers. This role will also focus on expanding the organization's effort to develop craft resources on our projects and sites.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Development:
    • Identify, develop, and implement innovative craft programs, workshops, exhibitions, or other initiatives that further develop our craft workforce following.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs and make recommendations for improvements.
    • Proven strategic and hands-on expertise in implementing and managing prevailing wage and apprenticeship programs mandated for government-funded projects.
    • Develop craft development programs that differentiate Zachry from its competitors.
  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Contribute to the organization's strategic planning and vision for craft development to include the latest technology and virtual learning techniques.
    • Stay informed of trends and best practices in the craft field.
    • Proactively collaborate with internal partners, including Workforce Planning & Staffing, IT, and Branding, to drive and support craft development initiatives.
    • Develop internal initiatives to encourage our craft workforce to enhance their skills and pursue field leadership roles.
  • Team Management:
    • Recruit, train, and supervise training and development program staff both at the corporate and field level.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Marketing & Communications:
    • Work with the marketing/communications team to promote programs and initiatives.
    • Present craft training programs and initiatives to our senior leadership as well as key customers. This involves creating compelling messaging to our customers to gain their financial support and the needed resources to upskill craft resources working on their projects and sites.
    • Partner with community colleges, workforce commissions etc to draw local craft talent in the areas where we work.
    • Partner with community colleges, workforce commissions, and other local organizations to attract craft talent in the areas where we operate.


Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Fine Arts, Arts Administration, Development).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in craft programming, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Strong understanding of all craft disciplines.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in relevant software/technology
